So you’ve picked up the Fault Hunting side quest in Borderlands 4, and now you’re stuck staring at a dead server console in some underground ruin. Don’t worry—you’re not alone. This mission throws a curveball halfway through, and powering the console isn’t as straightforward as it looks.
You start off working with Leopold, a seismologist who’s convinced something weird is happening beneath the Ruined Sumplands. He’s part of a group called the Society for Amateur Seismology Enthusiasts, which sounds like a joke until the ground starts shaking and Creeps start pouring out of fissures. After collecting seismic readings and fighting off a few waves of enemies, you’re sent into a cave system that leads to a buried facility. That’s where things get interesting.
Once you reach the underground chamber, you’ll see the server console sitting in the middle of the room. It’s surrounded by busted machinery, glowing green corpses, and a few loot crates. When you try to activate it, you’ll get a message: “Power offline. Manual reroute required.”
Leopold pops in over comms and confirms what you already guessed—the power lines are fried, and you’ll need to reroute them manually.
Look around the room. You’ll find three cylindrical power cells mounted on the walls. Each one is connected to a junction box. These are your targets.
Each junction box has a rotating mechanism that controls the direction of the power flow. Your goal is to align the cables so they form a continuous path from the power cells to the server console.
To rotate the junctions, use your grappling hook. Aim at the rotating gear on each junction and fire. The cable will shift direction. You’ll need to rotate each one until the blue cable glows and connects to the next node.
Do this for all three junctions. You’ll know it’s working when the cables light up and Leopold says something like, “Power flow restored.”
Now that the power’s back, return to the console and activate it. This time, it’ll prompt you to initiate a system hack.
Here’s the catch: while the hack runs, Creeps will spawn and try to destroy the console. You’ve got about two minutes to hold them off. Use area-of-effect weapons, elemental grenades, and anything that slows enemies down. Cryo works great here.
If the console gets destroyed, you’ll have to restart the hack. So keep your shield up and stay close.
Once the hack finishes, the console will unlock a hidden passage leading deeper into the facility. This is where you’ll face The Faultkeeper, a mutated Order engineer who’s been messing with seismic tech.
The fight is intense. Expect shockwaves, minion spawns, and a few environmental hazards. Stay mobile and watch for tremor warnings.
Defeating The Faultkeeper nets you:
Before you leave, check the server room again. There’s usually a loot crate tucked behind the console or near the broken pipes.
Powering the server console in Fault Hunting is one of those moments that makes Borderlands feel bigger than just guns and loot. It’s part puzzle, part survival, and part setup for a boss fight that actually feels earned. If you’re into missions that mix mechanics with atmosphere, this one’s worth the grind.
