Fortnite Rise of Midas event brings back The Floor is Lava mode

Midas, the man who could turn things to gold with his touch, has existed as a character in Fortnite long before the gods of Greek mythology broke onto the scene in Chapter 5 Season 2. In the lore of Fortnite, he’s more of a super spy than a mythical being, but after being absent for a year, he’s finally made his grand return and brought a fan-favorite mode back with him.

If you log in to Fortnite now you can play The Floor is Lava mode for the first time in a couple of years, as it is planned to be available until at least the end of Chapter 5 Season 2. This mode takes place in the regular Battle Royale map, but lava will slowly rise to cover the entire island, and you’ll need to climb and build your way to the top while battling other players to be the last person standing.

With this, we have confirmation that a new version of the Midas skin, known as Ascendant Midas, will be available in the item shop from March 26, 2024, and will likely remain purchasable for the rest of the season.

That’s not all though, as two sets of quests have also been added. The first is only active for the next two weeks, and requires you to perform various feats in The Floor is Lava mode. The other is for the main Battle Royale mode, will have new quests releasing daily, and has cosmetic rewards in store for those who complete enough of them.

It’ll be interesting to see how this develops as Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2’s story rolls on, and whether this beloved mode will stick around for good this time.
