Ifa, the last 4-Star character for Genshin Impact, is, much to my personal sorrow, a disappointment. From a mechanical perspective, he’s clunky. From a DMG standpoint, he lacks power. As a Healer, he barely passes. Finally, as a Driver/Support, he rates only as acceptable. The flaws in this character are egregious, and, while he can be used to some extent, you’d be better served by picking someone else.

How Does Ifa Work

The Basics

Ifa, as a member of the Flower-Feather Clan, has an Elemental Skill that, like Chasca’s, allows him to fly and shoot his gun while in mid-air. You can either tap or hold the Normal Attack button (Left Trigger for Controller players) to fire his gun, which deals DMG and Heals on hit.

Ifa’s Elemental Burst is a quick vacuum that pulls in enemies, ONCE, and, if an enemy is affected by a Swirlable Element (Hydro, Pyro, Cryo, Electro), puts a Sedation Mark on up to 4 enemies. Sedation Mark is similar to a time bomb. It will explode after a short delay, dealing DMG aligned to whatever Element it interacted with.

The problem with Ifa is that he’s not a main DPS. He’s some combination of Healer and Swirl Driver. Since his kit is somewhat modeled after Chasca’s, who is a main DPS, this causes significant issues when evaluating his functionality.

As a Healer, his power is marginal at best. It can heal the entire pretty well if you have enough EM, but not necessarily well enough to gain the full benefits of the Songs of Days Past set. Furthermore, all of his Healing is On-Field, meaning that if you use his continuous Healing, you’ll eat up a lot of time you could be using to DMG the enemy.

As for just using his Tap Healing, it’s far too clunky a process. You have to use his Skill, get into the air, tap his Normal Attack, then release his Skill, land back on the ground, and then you can finally switch out characters. It’s too much work for such little benefit.

As for his role as a Swirl Driver, again, his power isn’t great. Even using Viridescent Venerer, his DMG is not worth the amount of time you have to field him. His Burst has some power behind it, but that doesn’t make up for the rest of his rather lackluster kit.

What to Build on Ifa

Unfortunately, Ifa is a split scaler, and not in a good way. His abilities rely on ATK to deal DMG, but his Healing is dependent on EM. I’d suggest going the EM route and giving him the Wandering Evenstar Catalyst. That way, you can at least get some benefit from both Stats. Get some Energy Recharge Substats if you can, as well.

As for artifacts, Viridescent Venerer or Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City are your best bets. Unfortunately, owing to the clunky nature of his kit, it’ll probably be easier if you just use his Normal Attacks or Burst to activate their effects.

Who Does Ifa Synergize With

Ororon and… that’s it. Well, ok, technically, Ifa can be used with several other characters like Furina, Mavuika, and Iansan, but that’s because of how good they are, not how good he is. I’m not saying you can’t use him, merely that there are many, many, MANY better options.
