Update 4.8 for Genshin Impact arrives this week, bringing the annual summer event with a free skin alongside yet another fresh endgame challenge and a brand-new character in the form of Emilie on its character banners.
As usual, the Genshin Impact servers will go down for a few hours while the update is applied and standard maintenance work is done. Players can expect to receive compensation for all the downtime, which will be delivered to their in-game mailbox after the servers are online once again – sweet, sweet Freemogems.

The Genshin Impact servers are scheduled to go offline on July 17, 2024, at 6am (UTC+8) in preparation for update 4.8. Here’s what that means for your timezone:

The Genshin Impact servers are estimated to be offline for a period of five hours, after which players will be able to log back in and start exploring this year’s time-limited summer map – Simulanka.

Each hour of downtime will be compensated with 60 Primogems for free, so a total of 300 of the in-game currency will be up for grabs once the dust has settled. In case things go terribly wrong somehow, HoYoverse always offers additional compensation. Don’t forget to claim this gift in the 30 days after the update, as the message will delete itself after that deadline and take those free Primogems with it.
Genshin Impact update 4.8: preload
You can preload Genshin Impact update 4.8 on PC, iOS, and Android right now. Preloading the patch enables you to get back to the game quicker on the day of the update, as you’ll already have the majority of necessary files on your device.
While PS4 and PS5 players won’t be able to preload version 4.8, HoYoverse announced that it will test the functionality for update 5.0, which will be out late in August 2024 – if things work out, console players won’t be the only ones left to download the entire update on patch day anymore.
Genshin Impact update 4.8: download size
Update 4.7 brought some changes to the PC version’s file packaging, mimicking changes made to the game’s mobile version, which resulted in less space being required to unzip downloaded game files – version 4.8 shows that this was successful: You basically just need one additional GB of free storage for unzipping as opposed to double the update’s size.
Expected download size for Genshin Impact 4.8:
- PC: 11 to 13 GB (12 to 14 GB required for unzipping)
- Mobile: 1.6 to 1.8 GB
Note that your download size will depend on the voice packs you’ve got installed and the amount of content you’ve already cleared, hence the slight variations.

North Carolina is reportedly considering firing Bill Belichick In a story published Tuesday, Andrew Jones of 247Sports reported North Carolina has had "potential exit strategy discussions" regarding Belichick. On Wednesday, Pat Welter of WRAL-TV in Raleigh revealed new information about what's going on behind closed doors, which could give the program more grounds to move on from the former New England Patriots coach. According to Welter, two players got into a fight in the locker room on Tuesday, and a parent said their son no longer wants to go to the facility because it's too "toxic." If that wasn't enough, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman has reported the school has suspended cornerbacks coach Armond Hawkins. The suspension is tied to allegations of extra benefits in a previous report by Welter. No wonder North Carolina wants to get rid of Belichick. Along with the scandals, he has failed to attract elite players. "There's no question that job No. 1 for any coach is attracting top talent to North Carolina, and I think that's where you start if you're the North Carolina administration," Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer said Sunday on "Patriots Pregame Live." "You look at their roster and you say, 'You turned over 70 percent of the roster and that's what we're getting on a week-to-week basis?' ... I think there are lots of fair questions to ask in those departments." North Carolina kicking Belichick to the curb would be justified. He has failed to deliver results on the field. More importantly, he has reportedly created a mess that could leave the program in shambles.
Browns Announce Myles Garrett News Ahead of Steelers Game
The Cleveland Browns are 1-4 on the season and just underwent a big change after they traded veteran quarterback Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, ahead of their Week 6 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, they are facing some issues with their roster. On Wednesday, the Browns released their injury/participation report for their latest practice. One player (Shelby Harris) did not participate due to rest, while nine had limited participation due to various reasons. Among the players who were limited was Cleveland defensive star Myles Garrett, who is still nursing a nagging ankle injury. It's worth noting that Garrett missed a practice and was limited in two leading up to their Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings. With that said, there were concerns about his availability for the contest. The good news is that Garrett was able to play, recording three tackles in the 21-17 Cleveland loss. Sure enough, Garrett's condition will be worth monitoring heading into the showdown with Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers. Garrett's defense remains a big weapon on a Browns team that is still figuring out its offense and quarterback of the future. The one-time Defensive Player of the Year already has 21 combined tackles, eight tackles for loss, eight QB hits and four sacks. Even Rodgers himself admitted that the Steelers are wary of Garrett, whom he described as "one of the few players in the league" that "you game plan for and you watch the film," per 93.7 The Fan. The Browns really need Garrett to be at 100% if they want to beat the Steelers in Week 6. If he continues to be bothered by his ankle injury, it could spell trouble for the team once again. Cleveland plays Pittsburgh on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.
Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Makes MLB History Against Yankees
The pressure is mounting for the Toronto Blue Jays to eliminate the New York Yankees on Wednesday after momentum swung in New York’s favor during Tuesday’s Game 3 loss. Toronto will look to close out the series and avoid a return trip home for a decisive Game 5. Although the Blue Jays’ pitching disappointed on Tuesday, allowing nine runs, the offense continued to thrive, led by the team’s superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The 26-year-old right-handed slugger has risen to the occasion so far and continued during the top of the first inning for Game 4. Guerrero slashed an 0–2 cut fastball from Yankees rookie Cam Schlittler down the right field line, driving in George Springer and giving Toronto an early 1-0 lead. That swing added to what’s already been an impressive stretch for Guerrero, who has consistently delivered in key moments throughout the series. He launched the first postseason grand slam in Blue Jays history during Game 2, and his production has helped keep Toronto competitive despite Tuesday’s pitching struggles. Guerrero’s presence at the top of the order has continued to loom large—and now, his impact has made MLB history. He is the first player in postseason history to record at least nine hits and nine RBIs through the first four games of a series, regardless of round (h/t Underdog’s Justin Havens). Most impressive of all, Guerrero reached that mark just one at-bat into Game 4 of the ALDS. Guerrero signed a 14-year, $500 million contract in April of this year and responded by leading Toronto to its first AL East division title in a decade. Over 156 games, Guerrero owned a .292 batting average, .381 on-base percentage, .848 OPS, 23 home runs and 84 RBIs. Guerrero has spent all seven seasons of his career with the Blue Jays after debuting in 2019. He earned his fifth consecutive All-Star selection this year and has continued to be a finalist for AL MVP. With the series still hanging in the balance, Guerrero’s dominance has become the biggest storyline. If he stays hot, Toronto’s October could stretch much further.
NHL insider reveals update on Maple Leafs' search for top forward
The Toronto Maple Leafs have started the 2025-26 season with an alternate top-six, following the departure of Mitch Marner, and the addition of several new faces. Coach Craig Berube tested various combinations during training camp, with no fixed wingers for the first line with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies. Although Max Domi could play with them, there are other possibilities. Insider Elliotte Friedman reported on Tuesday that Toronto is still looking for a top-six forward, pointing out that the franchise has spent the entire summer exploring different alternatives to cover the hole left by Marner. "I think Toronto is still looking for a top-six forward. They’ve been doing that all summer since (Mitch) Marner left," Friedman said on Daily Faceoff’s "Morning Cuppa Hockey." It is unclear whether the Maple Leafs front office will prioritize a center or a winger, but logic suggests it would be a winger — either a top-line right winger (RW1) or a second-line left winger (LW2). How a new top-six forward would impact the Maple Leafs A reliable top-six forward would solve three things almost immediately. It would stabilize the combinations, distribute opposing defensive coverage and lift the five-on-five play, where Toronto needs to be more consistent. If this hypothetical new player is a winger with good transition and passing in the high zone, the second power-play unit would improve, while the PP1 would maintain its pace without overloading Matthews. Berube would gain tactical flexibility to close out games with two dangerous lines. To acquire a top-six forward, Toronto would probably have to move second- or third-line players, which could subtract defensive depth and lead to a worse penalty kill. That is, perhaps, one of the few risks the franchise would face. Although the Leafs would gain quality up front, they could open new holes in the back. The Maple Leafs could also benefit from the narrative that could be generated by signing a top forward. The fans have asked for clear signals after Marner's departure. They want a renowned player who confirms that the team will continue fighting for the Stanley Cup, beyond the new DNA imposed by Berube, pointing more toward a team dependent on collective performance. Despite it being a real need, the Maple Leafs have little space and few premium picks. The most likely scenario is that we will see them hold out for weeks with their current roster, while testing players like Domi, Matias Maccelli and Bobby McMann.
