The countdown for Ghost of Yotei is on, and gamers are speculating the connection between this game and its predecessor. The devs at Sucker Punch want to reassure fans that the connection is very limited between the two games, and that players shouldn’t focus too much on Ghost of Tsushima while playing this sequel. Here is what the devs have to say about this.
The release of Ghost of Yotei is just around the corner, and fans are pretty excited about this new game, given the immense success of the previous game in the series. The ending of Ghost of Tsushima changes based on the choices players make around the end of the story playthrough of the game, choosing whether to kill Lord Shimura or not, which will change the outcome of the ending for the main character.
It’s a pretty significant way to end the game, considering another Sucker Punch game that emphasizes the importance of choices, and how absent this game mechanic is throughout Tsushima. The devs and the director of Ghost of Yotei say that players do not have to wonder or worry about the two endings of Tsushima and how they will relate to the sequel. Ghost of Yotei is set 300 years after the events of the first game, so the ending of Tsushima should not impact anything that happens in Ghost of Yotei.
This will be a fresh new story, with a new protagonist, and it even takes place in a completely different region of Japan than in Tsushima. Whether or not you chose to kill or spare Lord Shimura at the end of Tsushima, both endings are valid, and it has been confirmed that Atsu, the main protagonist of Ghost of Yotei, is not related to and has no knowledge of Jin, the protagonist in Tsushima. However, there is some speculation that events that happened in the first game will be referenced somehow in this new game. I guess we shall wait and see how Ghost of Tsushima will unfold and how this game will expand the Ghost universe.
