If you haven’t played the Dragon Quest Builders games, you’re missing out. Dragon Quest Builders and Dragon Quest Builders 2 combine the endless creativity of Minecraft with the vast adventure of the Dragon Quest games. We need a Dragon Quest Builders 3 now, so why isn’t Square Enix making it happen?

Why Do We Need a Dragon Quest Builders 3?

Set in the world of Alefgard, the first Dragon Quest Builders game casts you as the legendary Builder, who must restore the world to its former glory after its destruction. You fight monsters, manage resources, and build stuff in a world made of blocks, similar to Minecraftbut Dragon Quest Builders has a much sharper visual style than Minecraft. The sequel further expanded the concept with quality-of-life improvements like fast travel and four-player co-op play, along with a deeper story full of memorable characters and dark plot elements. Players can also share their creations online and visit other players’ worlds.

However, the sequel came out in 2018, seven years ago. While the online community is still active, they are itching for some new ground to build on. A third game could also bring in newcomers, since each game is a stand-alone adventure, and no knowledge of Dragon Quest is required to enjoy them.

So, Where is Dragon Quest Builders 3?

As The Gamer states, Square Enix seems to be sleeping on the Dragon Quest franchise. Aside from the upcoming Dragon’s Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake, they haven’t released any new news about upcoming games in the franchise. However, since Octopath Traveler 0 has a town-building feature, there might be hope for more building-focused games in the near future. With the Nintendo Switch 2 setting fire to the gaming industry, a Dragon Quest Builders 3 on the new console could be amazing.

Conclusion

Dragon Quest Builders 2 was my introduction to the Dragon Quest franchise, and I couldn’t stop playing it. I was instantly drawn into the story, the hack-and-slash battles, and collecting recipes for building stuff. If we ever get a Dragon Quest Builders 3 for the Switch 2, I would instantly buy it. I’m sure plenty of other fans feel the same way.
