In Hollow Knight Silksong, Hornet comes across a boss called Fourth Chorus. And this mighty foe is a special kind of encounter that turns the battle into a fever dream mashup of classic arcade games and modern metroidvania madness. This boss isn’t moving around the screen, but is the screen, pushing Hornet around the arena and your fingers to the limit!

You can’t just walk into this behemoth’s lair and immediately start the fight. Fourth Chorus lurks in the central room of the Far Fields, basically playing dead in the background until a few conditions are met. The sneaky thing only wakes up after you’ve completed the Flexible Spines wish and snagged the Drifter’s Cloak from the Seamstress. The moment you try to pass through that central room, heading toward Greymoor. BOOM!!! Your new nightmare decides it’s showtime.

Fourth Chorus’s First Phase of Attack Patterns

This boss doesn’t mess around with subtle tells or polite warnings. When Fourth Chorus wants to attack, it commits harder than any devoted gamer of Hollow Knight. Don’t let the fact of it being fixed into the background fool you. It will consume the screen to crush, smash, and bring down the house on top of you and the arena.

The Hand Swipe of Doom

The most common attack you’ll face is the horizontal hand swipe that cuts across the lower third of the screen. The boss telegraphs this by placing its hand at either side of the screen, giving you about as much warning as a weather app during tornado season. A quick white flash is all you get before a massive hand swipes around the ground. Your best bet? Jump! Jump like your life depends on it! (Because it does!) The timing isn’t too brutal once you get the hang of it, but those first few attempts might leave you questioning your reflexes.

The Platform-Destroying Slam

Just like a random gnat landing in front of anyone, there’s a vertical slam attack. It is basically the boss saying, “You think you can just be in here? That’s cute.” When Fourth Chorus raises its hand high near its head, you know you’re about to lose some real estate. The slam destroys whatever platform it hits, leaving you hopping about in the world’s most dangerous version of The Floor is Lava.

The key here is spatial awareness. Watch where that hand is positioned and get yourself literally anywhere else. Side-stepping this attack isn’t rocket science, but when you’re already stressed about staying alive, even simple movements can feel super intense. Don’t forget those side swipes, too. The boss isn’t going to wait for the platform to resurface before it Tinder swipes you. Stay on your toes.

Phase Two: The Roof is On Fire

Just when you think you’ve got this boss figured out, Team Cherry decides to throw a curveball at you. After dealing enough damage and hearing that first screech (which sounds about as pleasant as nails on a chalkboard), welcome to phase two. Fourth Chorus starts raising the roof and bringing it down.

Now adding ceiling attacks to its repertoire, dropping flaming boulders like in Reign of Fire. These aren’t polite little pebbles either, but meteors. We’re talking full-sized chunks of molten rock that really want to introduce themselves to your face. The timing for dodging these, along with dealing with hand swipes and slams?… It’s not very big…or medium, but not impossible.

Final Phase: This Place About To Blo-o-o-o-o-o-o-ow!

As if the previous phases weren’t enough of a workout for your fingers, Team Cherry likes to remind you that you are playing Hollow Knight Silksong. Now, when a vertical slam happens, the bits of platform hit start staying embedded in lava for longer periods, forcing you to make increasingly desperate leaps across larger gaps.

This is where the Drifter’s Cloak becomes your best friend. That gliding ability isn’t just for show – it’s essential for navigating the increasingly hostile environment that Fourth Chorus creates. You’ll find yourself gliding from one side of the arena to attempting to land on smaller platforms.

One environmental change that happens in this final act is that when Fourth Chorus lets out that third screech, air currents appear on either side of the arena. It’s a creative adjustment that allows you to use the Drifter’s Cloak to glide. You propel up and can attack some glowing orange rocks in a mass in the ceiling. The boss doesn’t take a coffee break while you’re doing this – it keeps throwing everything it’s got at you. So, ride like the wind! Break all the glowing rocks, and that massive rock will break off and come down on that giant’s head.

Hollow Knight Silksong Fourth Chorus Recap Notes

  • Master the upward attacks – You’ll spend most of this fight positioned below the boss’s head, so get comfortable with attacking upward.
  • Positioning is everything – Stay mobile and keep track of where safe spots are. This fight is more about smart positioning than aggressive attacking.
  • Use those stun windows – When Fourth Chorus briefly staggers, that’s your moment to go absolutely ham with Silkspear attacks or whatever Tools you’ve got equipped.
  • Don’t panic during combo attacks – The boss loves chaining attacks together, but there’s always a pattern.
  • Trust the Drifter’s Cloak – It’s a legitimate dodge mechanic that can save your skin when platforms disappear.

Final Thoughts on This Stone-Cold Lava-scape

Fourth Chorus represents everything that makes Hollow Knight Silksong both brilliant and occasionally rage-inducing. It’s a boss fight that demands patience, precision, and probably a stress ball within arm’s reach. The satisfaction of finally bringing down this stone giant is worth every frustrated controller grip and muttered curse word. It’s the kind of victory that makes you want to immediately text your friends about it, even though they’ll probably just respond with “cool story bro” because they’re still waiting to get their hands on the game.
