Pokémon Legends: Z-A reintroduces the fan-favorite Mega Evolution mechanic, and with it comes a host of brand-new Mega forms for existing Pokémon. One of the most anticipated new additions is the chillingly elegant Mega Froslass. This powerful Ice/Ghost-type receives a significant boost to its stats, making it a formidable ally for any trainer exploring Lumiose City. However, unlocking this power requires you to find its specific Mega Stone, the Froslassite.

This guide will walk you through all the necessary steps to get Mega Froslass in Pokémon Legends Z-A, from finding its Mega Stone to tips on how to defeat the powerful Rogue Pokémon that guards it.

How to Get Froslassite

To Mega Evolve a Froslass, you first need two things: a Key Stone (which you receive as part of the main story) and the Froslassite Mega Stone. Unlike some Mega Stones that can be purchased or found lying in the environment, the Froslassite must be earned by proving your strength.

You can obtain the Froslassite by defeating a Rogue Mega Froslass in a specific late-game mission. These powerful, enraged Pokémon are much stronger than their standard counterparts and serve as challenging boss battles within the Wild Zones of Lumiose City.

Battling the Rogue Mega Froslass

The encounter with Rogue Mega Froslass is a unique and challenging battle. It takes place in a snow-covered, isolated section of Wild Zone 17, an area that becomes accessible later in the game. To trigger the fight, you must first accept the side mission “The Haunting of Lumiose.”

Rogue Mega Froslass Details

  • Type: Ice/Ghost
  • Weaknesses: Fire, Rock, Ghost, Dark, Steel
  • Resistances: Ice, Poison, Bug
  • Immunities: Normal, Fighting

Tips for an Easy Victory

  1. Exploit Its Weaknesses: Your best strategy is to bring strong Pokémon with super-effective moves. Fire-types like Mega Charizard Y or Mega Blaziken can deal massive damage, as can powerful Dark-types like Mega Tyranitar or Weavile. A strong Steel-type like Metagross is also an excellent choice, as it resists both of Froslass’s STAB (Same-Type Attack Bonus) moves.
  2. Avoid Using Normal or Fighting Moves: Mega Froslass is completely immune to Normal and Fighting-type attacks due to its Ghost typing. Do not waste a turn using these moves, as they will have no effect.
  3. Watch Out for High Special Attack and Speed: Mega Froslass boasts a massive Special Attack stat of 140 and a Speed stat of 120. It will likely move first and hit very hard with moves like Shadow Ball and Ice Beam. Consider bringing a bulky special defender, such as a Snorlax or a Goodra, to absorb its powerful attacks.
  4. Use Status Moves Wisely: While it is fast, Mega Froslass is not immune to status conditions. A well-timed Thunder Wave from a Pokémon like Magnezone can paralyze it, cutting its Speed in half and giving your slower, more powerful attackers a chance to strike first.

Once you have successfully defeated the Rogue Mega Froslass, it will revert to its normal form and you will be rewarded with the Froslassite.

How to Mega Evolve Froslass

After obtaining the Froslassite, the process of Mega Evolving is straightforward.

  1. Give the Froslassite to a Froslass in your party to hold.
  2. Ensure your player character is equipped with the Key Stone.
  3. During any battle, you will now see the “Mega Evolve” option on your Froslass’s move selection screen.
  4. Select the Mega Evolution button before choosing an attack. Froslass will Mega Evolve at the start of the turn and then use its chosen move.

The Mega Evolution lasts for the entire duration of the battle. You can only Mega Evolve one Pokémon per battle, so choose the right moment to unleash the full power of your Mega Froslass
