Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is set to receive a closed beta test as SEGA offers challengers across the world a chance to try this exciting update to a SEGA arcade classic, with the focus on testing out network servers and cross-play performance to ensure a smooth and accessible online experience when the game’s update releases later this year on October 30, 2025.

What is Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.?

An update to Virtua Fighter 5, not to be confused with Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, which released June 1, 2021. This remaster was released earlier this year on January 27, 2025, and boasts additional content, remastered visuals, and an online mode that boasts Rollback and Cross-Play functionalities. Allowing for players anywhere to fight anyone at any time!

For those familiar with TEKKENVirtua Fighter is a series primarily consisted of 3D fighting games where you play as a variety of characters in a 1-on-1 competitive experience. With characters like Akira Yuki and Sarah Bryant being representatives of various forms of martial arts.

What is the Closed Beta Test?

A means for players to get an early taste of the game while also assisting the developers and allowing for a stress-test on the network infrastructure, giving the opportunity for any bugs and errors to be caught and adjusted accordingly before release.

Similar to SEGA’s Open Network Test for Sonic Racing: Crossworlds, the announcement and commencement of the test show their commitment in hoping to offering players a chance to assist in the development. Ensuring a stable online environment for players to enjoy, as well as an early taste for those uncertain about purchasing the game for themselves.

With Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O.’s test largely focusing on its cross-play functionality, players on all supported platforms are able to participate. Anyone can be eligible to join in on the fun as well, so long as they meet a few requirements in order to receive access.
