If you’ve ventured into Titan Quest 2’s Fiend’s Hollow looking for fortune and glory, you’ve probably run into the brazier puzzle that’s more confusing than deciphering a toddler’s crayon masterpiece. This puzzle doesn’t just test your wits; it smirks at your attempts to brute-force it and says, “Nice try, buddy.” Lucky for you, I’m here to clear up the confusion and show you how to crack this overly cryptic side quest.
First things first, this puzzle isn’t your typical “light the fires in the right order to unlock a door” kind of challenge. If that’s what you were hoping for, I’m sorry to disappoint you. Spoiler alert: there’s no magic sequence here.
Here’s the setup. You’re in Fiend’s Hollow, a cavern with a side quest objective to free a bunch of goblin prisoners. Nice and straightforward, right? But then along comes this puzzle like an uninvited guest. The game dangles a locked door and a few tiny braziers in your face, leading you to believe there’s a hidden pattern to unlock the door. Spoiler alert #2: this is a lie. The real solution lies elsewhere in the dungeon, and honestly, the game could’ve done a better job hinting at that.
Forget about those tiny braziers near the locked door for a second (you’ll deal with those later). Instead, focus on finding three large braziers scattered throughout Fiend’s Hollow. Lighting these will unlock the door. Here’s where to look:
Head east from the puzzle room toward an area that conveniently houses two miniboss goblins. Dispatch them however you like (pro tip: don’t skimp on your AOE skills), and you’ll find the first big brazier waiting for you. Light it up.
Make your way to the southeastern part of the dungeon, where the goblin cage prisoners are hanging out. You’ll find the last two braziers here, just begging for your attention. Light these bad boys, too.
With the big braziers lit, head back to the locked door and the miniature braziers in front of it. Here’s the kicker that initially makes no sense but now magically works because reasons: ***you can light these braziers in any order.*** Once all three are lit, the door will finally deign to open, revealing your hard-earned treasure room.
For all your efforts, you’ll meet a charming vagrant named Mopsus. Don’t get too attached, though. When prompted to leave, Mopsus, brimming with nihilistic energy, basically says, “Nah, I’m good here.” He might not be the prize, but the two loot containers in the room absolutely are.
These chests have a decent shot at coughing up some shiny blue-rarity gear, whether it’s weapons, armor, or trinkets. Even if the loot doesn’t thrill you, there’s always the consolation prize of more gold to add to your stash (because, hey, you can never have too much, right?).
Don’t feel pressured to solve this puzzle if you’re only here to finish the “Cages in the Dark” quest. The puzzle is entirely optional. Completing the core quest of freeing the prisoners is as straightforward as opening the cages, releasing the prisoners, and collecting your 4,881 XP and 244 Gold at the end. But, if you’re a loot hoarder or have completionist tendencies, the brazier puzzle is worth your time.
