Indie Dev Spotlight: Kinetic Games Horror Experience

Kinetic Games is the developer and creator of the titular game Phasmophobia. Phasmophobia is a viral game that was released in early access in 2020. Since then, the game has remained in early access, with a full release planned for next year. This week, we will be spotlighting Kinetic Games, the brains behind this iconic game, what they’ve been doing with Phasmophobia, and what they have planned in the future.

Kinetic Games

Kinetic Games was founded in 2020. They are a small group of individuals based in the UK, and are the developers of the game Phasmophobia. According to the Kinetic Games website, “We set out to create the most unique, genre-defining games and provide some of the best community interaction in the industry.” Community interaction is something for which they are best known. Given that Phasmophobia is a multiplayer game, it isn’t that much of a surprise that Kinetic Games focuses on engaging with its audience and creating fun spaces for them. The only game under their belt is Phasmophobia, and since its release, it’s been surprisingly relevant this whole time.

The Virality of Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia has become a viral sensation, spawning other games that are Phasmophobia-like and generating a pretty big fan base that is pretty dedicated to the game. The strangest and most notable thing about Phasmophobia is the fact that it was released in early access 5 years ago, and it still is. Apart from the occasional updates for the game, for the past 5 years, Kinetic Games has made no announcements on the full release of the game, until this past year, when they announced a planned full release of the game in 2026.

Fans of the game and the community are positively buzzing about this announcement. It’s been a long time coming for Phasmophobia to get a chance to shine with a full release, and I am actually really interested in what Kinetic Games has in store for this game.

What’s Next?

As of right now, the only thing we know about anything they have planned is the full release of Phasmophobia next year. Other than that, Kinetic Games has been pretty hush-hush about other games in development. Kinetic Games has cultivated a large community, with many Twitch and YouTube streamers dedicated to streaming Phasmophobia content. Phasmophobia has just celebrated its 5th anniversary, and even if you missed the rewards, it’s not too late to play the game until the full release coming next year.
