This week, I’m shining a spotlight on Semiwork, the creative developer team behind the viral game REPO. The success of REPO became a surprise indie hit, gaining traction after the devs released YouTube videos of the game, which boosted its popularity with gamers. Here’s all there is to know about Semiwork, the success of REPO, and what’s next for the small indie game company.
Semiwork is an indie game developer based in Uppsala, Sweden. Before the release of REPO, Semiwork struggled a little as an indie game developer company. The only other Semiwork game under their belt is Voidigo, a vividly animated action roguelite focused on boss hunting, where you can unleash an array of diverse weapons and power-ups to combat the corruption of the Void; however, the game failed to catch on with gamers. That was until the release of their newest game, REPO.
REPO is Semiwork’s most recent and popular game. This Lethal Company-like game catapulted the company to stardom, becoming a viral sensation. REPO is a co-op horror game that has players looting, avoiding, and fighting off monsters, and creating funny and viral moments with friends. This is the only Lethal Company-like game that’s come out since Lethal Company that has stuck and increased in popularity since its release. As someone who has experienced the game, it is so incredibly fun. With the success of REPO, it begs the question: What’s next for Semiwork?
The short answer is nothing really. REPO has seen such incredible success and positive response from players that most of their time will be devoted to updates on the game, and I’m not mad at that. REPO is definitely considered Lethal Company-like; however, it is actually very different in many ways from Lethal Company. Many features make it stand on its own, separate from what made Lethal Company so viral, and honestly, I’m excited to see what the devs are cooking up for this game.
