Indie Dev Spotlight: UniqueGeese

Welcome back to Total Apex’s Indie Dev Spotlight, where each week we highlight an up-and-coming indie developer! This week, we’re taking a look at Mason “UniqueGeese” Myers, the creator behind Indigo Park. During MomoCon 2025, Myers and other members of the Indigo Park development team hosted a panel that covered both the game’s beginnings and some teasers about the future of Chapter 2. Chapter 2’s announcement trailer was also released last week to celebrate the anniversary of Chapter 1’s release.

About the Indie Dev

Myers didn’t start his career as an indie dev. Instead, he began with a YouTube channel. This channel’s success started with the rise in popularity of Friday Night Funkin’, which Myers made multiple videos about. During this time, he also created mods for Friday Night Funkin’. However, Myers didn’t want to pigeonhole himself into only ever covering Friday Night Funkin’ and sought out ways to branch out into other types of video content. He began covering other games on his channel in addition to Friday Night Funkin’, until the release of Garten of Banban 1 in 2023.

Garten of Banban quickly became a popular topic of discussion, critique, and ridicule on YouTube. Myers, who was in college at the time, decided to challenge himself to recreate the game during his spring break. This recreation became known as Reincarnatedwhich is featured in its entirety on Myers’ channel. Reincarnated and its accompanying videos on Myers’ channel rose to popularity quickly, with the video talking about its development process earning 1.4 million views to date. The success of Reincarnated encouraged Myers to make his own mascot horror project, which eventually became Indigo Park.

The first chapter of Indigo Park was released on Steam in May of 2024, after having been announced in July of 2023. Like many of the games it takes inspiration from, it’s a first-person mascot horror game. Its mechanics, as Myers himself has admitted, are simple and fairly barebones, though in future chapters he plans to have more involved gameplay. Chapter 1’s primary draws are the atmosphere and its characters, particularly the game’s companion character, Rambley the Raccoon.

Behind the Scenes

With Indigo Park being Myers’ first large-scale indie dev project, there have, of course, been lessons he’s learned in the development of the first and second chapters. In particular, he’s spoken about becoming more familiar with Unreal Engine and how to better optimize the game so it can run on a wider variety of hardware. These lessons have led to Chapter 1 getting several updates since its release, ranging from aesthetic improvements to bug fixes and preventing softlocks.

Many of the members of the Indigo Park team are either friends of Myers or people he approached because of his familiarity with their prior work. For instance, he approached artist Jakeneutron to do much of Chapter 1’s art because of the work Jakeneutron had done for Amanda the Adventurer, another horror title by indie dev studio MANGLEDmaw Games.

Community Feedback

Both Indigo Park and Reincarnated have seen significant popularity and success, with the Kickstarter for Indigo Park’s Chapter 2 being fully funded within months of going live. While Myers and his team were planning to only release merchandise (such as plushes or shirts) once the game was completed, a combination of fan demand for merchandise and companies making poor-quality knockoff plushes pushed them to release official merchandise. The success of these initial pieces of merchandise led to the creation of an official storefront for Indigo Park, which fans have eagerly purchased from.

At MomoCon 2025’s Indigo Park panel, among the attendees were people cosplaying as characters from Indigo Park, which Myers said he was very touched by. The debut of the in-universe Mollie Ahoy! The cartoon and its new characters were received with excitement, as well as the introduction of the new characters’ voice actors.

Final Thoughts

Myers is one of many promising indie devs, with Indigo Park being a clear labor of love and a love letter to many other popular indie horror titles. His journey also shows one of the best elements of the indie space – someone doesn’t have to have a background in game development to create a great game. Harkening back to the central theme of Disney’s 2007 film Ratatouille, a great indie dev can come from anywhere and have any number of different skills. They might even start their journey without any game development skills. What matters is that they have the passion and determination to see their projects through.
