Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts is a series that has always touched a great deal of universes by its very nature. Now it’s time for Sora and company to board the Battle Bus. The release date for the Kingdom Hearts x Fortnite collab is September 17th, dropping alongside the v42.20 update. After v42.20 goes live and downtime concludes, Fortnite players can expect to have access to all of the Kingdom Hearts content, with the exception of certain cosmetics in the Item Shop, which may release a few hours later. Epic Games hasn’t provided a specific downtime window, but it typically happens in the early morning, EST.

Sora and Co. Are Heading to Fortnite

There are four confirmed skins for the Kingdom Hearts x Fortnite crossover—Sora, of course, as well as Roxas, Kairi, and Riku. Each of the new playable characters is expected to come with their own Back Bling and Pickaxes.

The Keyblade is the highlight weapon addition, serving as both a mythic weapon and Pickaxe. It’s only a reskin of the Typhoon Blade, rather than a fresh new weapon, but it looks sick, so who cares? For the duration of the Kingdom Hearts event, a heart moon will appear in the sky, but there aren’t any other changes to the map reported. You also may see Sora and the gang as NPCs on the Chapter 7 Season 4 Island.

Once available, Fortnite players will be able to purchase one or both Kingdom Hearts bundles, each with two new skins, plus a Back Bling, Pickaxe, and LEGO Fortnite style. A release teases, “Keep an eye out for the Shadow Steppers Kicks, too!” These bundles will cost 2,800 V-bucks apiece. In USD, that’s a little over $25 a pop. That’s a mighty big price tag if you want all of the content in the release. If you’re worried about your wallet and you can be patient, try to hold out for a combined deal in the Item Shop.

Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts Items, Overrides, and Power Hours

In addition to the above skins, here are some Kingdom Hearts items, Overrides, and Power Hours that will be heading to Fortnite. A release shares:

Fight the darkness as Sora and friends; KINGDOM HEARTS arrives in Fortnite! Wield the Kingdom Key to unleash a flurry of melee combos, and call down a shocking bolt on your opponents. Need a boost? Grab a Sea Salt Ice Cream to restore some health and shields.

The heart-shaped moon hangs over the Island, and two new KINGDOM HEARTS Overrides spawn beneath it:

  • Recovery Override (Squad & Match-Wide): Eliminating a player with any weapon drops healing orbs.
  • Level Up Override (Squad): Spawns a Mythic Kingdom Key for each squad member at their current location.

Drop into the KINGDOM HEARTS Power Hours where all players start with the Kingdom Key and a Sea Salt Ice cream this Saturday, September 19 from 2 to 4 PM ET and 9 to 11 PM ET.

Nerdist’s Take: Kingdom Hearts In Fortnite Sounds Like a Fun Mix to Us

While we would have loved to see Donald Duck in the world of Fortnite, we can see why that might not be a 1:1 match. But we do feel excited to see all our Kingdom Hearts favs arrive in this world of collaborations. Sora and co., we’ll save you a seat next to us on the Battle Bus. And ultimately, it’s an amazing time to be a Kingdom Hearts fan—first an animated series, now a Fortnite collaboration.
