Hanwha Life Esports and T1 have each been to one international event this year. HLE were the only LCK representative at First Stand, while T1 joined GenG at MSI. KT Rolster’s victory over GenG today means neither is going to the World Championship yet. The winner of the series will advance in the LCK Playoffs to face KT in the Upper Bracket Final. The loser awaits the victor between FearX and Dplus for a spot at the World Championship.
The LCK Playoff series for a chance to qualify for the World Championship starts at 11:00 PM PT (8:00 AM CET, September 14th).
HLE and T1 have battled each other seven times in the LCK this year. Five of those series were Bo3, in which T1 leads 3-2 with a game score of 6-5. The other two series were Bo5, split at one a piece between both teams. HLE won 3-2, while T1 won 3-0. All of HLE’s victories came at the beginning of the year, and since their 3-0 loss at the Road to MSI, they have struggled against the defending World Champions.
HLE’s record from Rounds 1-2 carried them in the standings. While they only lost to T1 and GenG, they had a worse record in Rounds 3-5 compared to T1. T1 is coming off a stressful series against DK, which went to the fifth game.
HLE and T1 met each other in the same round in both LCK Playoffs last year. At that time, Zeus was on T1 and Doran on HLE. They have traded spots this time around. In both those matches, Doran got the better of Zeus. That was not the only time Doran had diffed Zeus. Their recent meetings have been in Doran’s favor. Zeus returned to form near the end of the regular season, and whoever wins the matchup will set their team up for success in the series.
Two of the HLE players who have had a significant drop-off since the beginning of the year are Peanut and Delight. Zeka is in the same boat, but heading into this series, the Mid-Support will need to improve. T1’s Mid-Jungle of Oner and Keria is a driving force behind the team’s success. Peanut and Delight will need to match up to their dominance for HLE to be successful in this series.
HLE 2-3 T1
Going off T1’s recent series, they might struggle against HLE. However, T1 tends to start the Playoffs slowly, and with time, they level up. T1’s struggles could also be attributed to improvements from DK compared to their performance during the Play-Ins. The result could go either way, but it is unlikely that HLE or T1 will emerge with a dominant series victory.
The victor of the series has a big leg up for the future of 2025. Not only do they guarantee international qualification, but they will earn at least a third seed for the World Championship. For the loser, they will have to beat either BFX or DK and then face GenG to improve their seeding. Neither team will want to face an angry GenG, who were upset by KT.
