Yoko Shimomura is an industry giant when it comes to musical scores in the video game world. She’s actually helped construct a whole range of famous ones tied to some of gaming’s biggest releases. And now, she just so happens to have unfinished business with Street Fighter.
Yep, she’s returned with a brand-new track for the latest installment in the franchise, Street Fighter 6. Time for round two. Time to fight. (LOL.)

Shimomura’s last interaction with the Street Fighter series was way back in 1991 with Street Fighter II. Since then, her musical touch has been heard across a wide variety of iconic games. We’re talking the Mario series, the Final Fantasy franchise, and practically every Kingdom Hearts title.
Now she’s back — and it’s kind of a big deal.
This new track, written for Street Fighter 6, was confirmed by the official Street Fighter X account on June 2nd. The tweet indicated that a special new BGM titled “Edge of Triumph” was incoming, written by none other than Yoko Shimomura herself.
“We’ve teamed up with game music composer Yoko Shimomura for a special collaboration!

The Elena update is more than just a returning fighter. Yes, she’s back — but so are balance changes, gameplay tweaks, and now this musical collab with one of the best in the biz.
Fans were already hyped for Elena’s return, but this new BGM track adds another layer of nostalgia and excitement to the mix. Shimomura’s influence on video game music is legendary, so to have her back after 34 years is no small thing.
Could this mean even more work from her in future Capcom titles?
It’s also expected — or at least hoped — that Yoko Shimomura will be working on Kingdom Hearts 4. Fingers crossed this comes to fruition because, let’s be honest, what is Kingdom Hearts without her signature sound?
Until then, fans can enjoy her first involvement with Street Fighter in over three decades. Could this be the start of a renewed partnership? We certainly hope so. Either way, “Edge of Triumph” is already living up to its name.
