Little Nightmares 3 will launch tomorrow, on October 10, and fans of the series are gearing up for the full release. However, if you pre-ordered the new installment, you get to experience the game during early access, and people have a lot to say about the new installment. Here’s my full review of Little Nightmares 3.

Little Nightmares 3 is the latest installment in the series and follows new protagonists Low and Alone as they try to make their escape from a place called The Nowhere. Also, following the same footprint and design of the previous two titles, the two protagonists must fight and sneak their way past terrifying monsters. It’s an homage to the previous titles, given that each Little Nightmares game follows the same footprint. The oppressive atmosphere, clever puzzles, and the introduction of a combat system make for a pretty entertaining horror game.

Some people felt the game did not live up to the hype, its predecessors, or even the caliber at which Super Massive Games develops games. Especially coming out after their hit game Until Dawn, people felt it was lackluster and uninspired. And I understand the ire, too. The addition of the co-op system was a little clunky. It was difficult to gauge enemy tracking, especially between the two main characters, and though a combat system is also introduced in this game, it isn’t a main focal point, so it also feels a little redundant at times.

However, I can say I still enjoyed my playthrough of it. It was fun, sometimes the puzzles were a little too easy, and sometimes it made my head scratch. I did play solo, so maybe I had a different experience than those who opted to play with a partner. But playing solo didn’t diminish my gameplay in any way. I felt scared at appropriate times and was pretty engaged throughout the game. Was it groundbreakingly spectacular? No. But in my opinion, it didn’t need to be. It stood out among its predecessors as a solid Little Nightmares game, and I don’t feel an ounce of regret buying and spending money on this game.

Reception

Little Nightmares 3 reviews are pretty mixed, earning a solid 73 Metacritic score. There were some pretty hard flaws in the game to get over, but once you did, it was actually quite enjoyable. Some critics couldn’t overcome those obvious flaws, so the game lost a lot of points with a lot of people. Others were pleasantly surprised at the game. As opposed to it being spectacular, surpassing its predecessors, it cozily fit into the franchise as a solid third game.
