The gameplay trailer for the much-anticipated Little Nightmares III was revealed at Gamescom 2025, and it gave players a look at the puzzle platforming the series is known for. The trailer revealed a new chapter for the game where you’re trapped in a nightmarish carnival, and you have to solve puzzles in order to escape. In addition, you’ve got a friend with you.
The gameplay trailer was featured in the Future Games Show showcase at Gamescom 2025. It demonstrated part of the chapter “Carnevale,” where the two protagonists must escape a deadly carnival. The game’s global producer, Coralie Feniello, discussed the game over the gameplay footage. She stated that the carnival “might seem tranquil and welcoming at first, but of course, appearances can be deceiving.” Indeed, gruesome imagery abounds in the trailer, including what looks like a dead man with his head submerged in a bobbing for apples tub, along with several grotesque creatures that are out to kill the protagonists.
Little Nightmares III has two protagonists, meaning that for the first time in the series, you can experience the adventure in multiplayer, playing online with a friend and solving the creepy puzzles together. However, Feniello assures, if you prefer to experience your nightmares alone, the second character will be controlled by AI. Here’s hoping that the second character has intelligent AI and will actually be a help instead of a hindrance. In any case, the addition of a second character should make for some clever puzzles.
Little Nightmares III looks like it will be a great addition to the series, full of the tricky puzzle platforming and creepy atmosphere that the series is known for. The Carnevale chapter will probably be spine-tingling, given that carnivals have a reputation for being slightly off-putting and dangerous. Multiplayer will probably open up the possibilities even further, letting friends shout at each other when mistakes get them both killed. Fans of the first two games should find a lot to enjoy in Little Nightmares III. The game comes to PC and consoles on October 10.
