Long Gone is an upcoming zombie horror game. Yes, you’ve seen a lot of zombie horror games, but this is a retro-style point-and-click adventure, complete with charming pixel art. Since original point-and-click adventures are virtually dead in this modern age, this format should help to bring new life into the tried-and-true zombie apocalypse.
The trailer, which debuted at Gamescom 2025, opens with a pixel art man having his throat ripped out and eaten by a zombie, complete with spurts of pixel blood, which instantly shows what kind of game you are in for. As the trailer progresses, we see the man engaged in a typical point-and-click inventory, placing a bullet in a pistol and then using the pistol on the zombie. However, the pistol doesn’t fire, meaning that he just tosses it at the zombie’s head. It appears that this game might have a sense of humor along with its bleak atmosphere.
The trailer advertises that you will have to explore ruins to uncover secrets. Indeed, we see our protagonist rummaging through old newspapers and letters, but he spends a large portion of the trailer punching zombies. There’s even an extra scene at the end where he stomps on a still-animate zombie hand. If you’re expecting the deep storytelling of The Last of Us, you might not get it here, but it does look like there will be a story to uncover while you’re duking it out with zombies.
Zombie apocalypse stories aren’t usually my thing, but I do love old-style point-and-click adventures. Long Gone appears to have the look and feel of a classic point-and-click adventure game from the early nineties, so I might want to check it out. It doesn’t yet have a release date, but it can be wishlisted on Steam. If you need that zombie fix or you’re just nostalgic for point-and-click adventures, you’ll probably enjoy Long Gone.
