There are two matches today in the Mid-Season Invitational. The MSI day starts with Movistar KOI taking on Bilibili Gaming, followed by the defending World Champions, T1, facing off with the LCP’s first seed, CTBC Flying Oyster. KOI must restore faith for the Western teams at MSI after G2 Esports and FlyQuest’s 3-1 defeats. CFO, on the other hand, will have a near-impossible task to defeat a rejuvenated T1 roster.
With there being two matches scheduled today, the first begins at noon PST (9:00 pm CET). EU fans can rejoice as KOI’s match versus BLG takes place in the first slot. T1 versus CFO will begin once the KOI versus BLG series has concluded.
Movistar KOI 1 – 3 Bilibili Gaming
KOI is an unknown entity heading into this match. While they defeated G2 in the LEC Spring Finals, doubts surround this team. G2’s overall performance at MSI has downplayed KOI’s victory. KOI also needs to dispel the Mad Lions’ name. They may have changed their name this year, but the memories of past disappointments remain. Jojopyun returns to his home ground of Canada, and he is itching to prove himself alongside his teammates. BLG qualified for the Bracket Stage with a flawless record, but they looked shaky in doing so. BLG is the expected team to emerge victorious from this series, but it is not guaranteed.
T1 3 – 0 CTBC Flying Oyster
T1 has looked lackluster for most of the year, struggling to put in consistent performances. It is a surprise T1 is here, but to qualify, they handily defeated Hanwha Life Esports 3-0. That result in itself makes them the favorites in this series. CFO shocked the world at First Stand earlier this year, but their weaknesses were exposed when they faced HLE. T1 is likely to do the same to CFO, and the Korean outfit may get another sub-twenty-minute victory for the third straight MSI. The top lane is vital for this series to see if international Doran is back.
The results of the two matches will lead into each other. The victor of each series will progress in the Upper Bracket to face off in the next round. The losers, on the other hand, are knocked down to the Lower Bracket, where they will battle each other for survival at this year’s MSI.
