With FlyQuest and G2 Esports losing their series, the West turns to Movistar Koi at MSI. The first two games go differently, but the overall result is the same. Bilibili Gaming wins the series 3-1, with two of their wins being dominant. KOI showed that their LEC split victory was not a fluke. They can battle the best teams in the world. The West hopes more will come from this roster at this MSI.

Movistar KOI Versus Bilibili Gaming Game One

Draft

KOI Picks Blue Side

  • B1 – Yone
  • R1+R2 – Rumble+Pantheon
  • B2+B3 – Galio+Varus
  • R3 – Aurora
  • R4 – Miss Fortune
  • B4+B5 – Maokai+Alistar
  • R5 – Rakan

Summary

KOI’s swap onto the top side catches Bin, and Supa gets the first blood. The dive composition from BLG lands on the Grubs fight as Knight secures two kills. The LPL 2nd seed gets two of the three Grubs. Beichuan makes a curious decision to enter the Rift Herald in front of KOI, and he dies. KOI gets the Drake, but BLG crushes the extended teamfight.

The Atakan battle starts well for KOI with Jojpyun’s ultimate. Beichuan smites the Atakan, and Elk ends the fight with four kills after a well-placed Bullet Time. BLG goes five for one and secures the Infernal Soul and Baron. The push with Baron does not end the game for BLG. KOI gets the picks they need, finding the BLG bot lane. Even with those kills, the topside of BLG is too far ahead and wins the game.

Summary

Jojopyun outsmarts Knight, baiting his flash with Azir E, and then after flash ults him into the waiting arms of Elyoya. KOI wants to fight for the second Drake. Elyoya gets punished for his positioning, and the fight goes in favor of BLG. Importantly for BLG, Knight and Elk pick up kills.

KOI secures the Atakan, and the fight goes on for some time, trading kills back and forth. The teams continue going back and forth in fights. KOI catches out On and Elk, leading to a Baron take. KOI level up the series and give BLG their first tournament loss.

Game Three

Draft

BLG Picks Blue Side

  • B1 – Vi
  • R1+R2 – Ahri+Ezreal
  • B2+B3 – Sylas+Sion
  • R3 – Aatrox
  • R4 – Nautilus
  • B4+B5 – Caitlyn+Elise
  • R5 – Naafiri

Summary

The early game for the KOI botlane is rough against Caitlyn and Elise. Fortunately, they do not fall drastically behind. Elk earns a 1.3k gold lead to 15 minutes thanks to the power of Caitlyn. On catches Alvaro in the river to allow BLG to grab the Rift Herald. BLG suffocates KOI, giving them no chance to get into the game. KOI catches Elk on mid-wave, which leads to them getting Baron. The hope for KOI is short-lived as Knight and Beichuan find the engagement on the EU team. The fight win leads to Infernal Soul for BLG. Alvaro is doing everything to keep KOI in the game. BLG takes Baron and Elder to end the game.

Game Four

Draft

KOI picks Blue Side

  • B1 – Kalista
  • R1+R2 – Neeko+Skarner
  • B2+B3 – Sejuani+Renata Glasc
  • R3 – Ashe
  • R4 – K’Sante
  • B4+B5 – Ambessa+Ryze
  • R5 – Syndra

Summary

First blood goes to Elk despite Elyoya forcing Ashe’s summoner spells with a gank. The objectives are traded in the early game, with BLG getting the Grubs and KOI securing the Drake. KOI comes alive in the mid-game, trading even in mid, followed by a 2v2 win in the bot lane. Right before the third Drake, BLG forced a play top lane win with two kills to one. It earns them first positioning on the Drake, and despite a contest from Elyoya, Beichuan wins the smite battle. A one-for-one trade is in favor of KOI because they get the jungler. KOI secures the Atakan but loses Elyoya in the process.

The game is on a knife’s edge with KOI getting an ace and the Baron. Myrwyn is caught during the push, and that stifles the Baron Powerplay. BLG trades Baron for Mountain Soul after poking out Alvaro. BLG kills Myrwn and charges down the mid-lane to win their third series at MSI.

Reaction

The KOI botlane impressed during this series, standing up to Elk and On. Alvaro was the driving force behind a significant portion of KOI’s success in fights. They could have won that game four, but it was one pick on Myrwyn that led to their demise. BLG awaits the winner of T1 and CTBC Flying Oyster in the MSI Upper Bracket. KOI will face the loser of that series.
