Netflix’s Black Mirror Releases New Mobile Game

Started from surprising and now we’re here. Netflix has once again blurred the lines between fiction and reality with the release of Thronglets, a mobile game inspired by the Black Mirror universe. Launched alongside Season 7’s premiere on April 10, 2025, Thronglets extends the show’s dystopian themes into an interactive experience, allowing players to engage directly with the series’ exploration of technology and morality. Developed by Night School Studio, known for narrative-driven games like Oxenfree, this title offers a unique blend of charm and existential dread.

Black Mirror’s “Thronglets” Mobile Game: A Darkly Playful Dive into Digital Morality

Gameplay and Narrative Integration

Thronglets is a life simulation game where players care for digital creatures known as “thronglets.” These pixelated beings require attention, resources, and entertainment, much like virtual pets. However, the game introduces a psychological twist: the thronglets are self-aware, engaging players in conversations that challenge their decisions and ethics.

The game ties directly into the Season 7 episode “Plaything,” which follows a 1990s game journalist who discovers the original Thronglets game. This meta-narrative enhances the player’s immersion as the in-game events mirror Black Mirror’s plot, creating a layered storytelling experience.

Innovative Features

Thronglets distinguishes itself with features that deepen player engagement:

Emotional Interactivity: The thronglets’ self-awareness leads to emotionally charged interactions, prompting players to reflect on their choices.

Dynamic Notifications: The game sends personalized push notifications that can be unsettling, reinforcing the Black Mirror theme of technology’s intrusive nature.

Moral Complexity: Players must balance the well-being of their thronglets with the consequences of their actions, echoing the show’s exploration of ethical dilemmas.

Availability and Access

Thronglets is available exclusively to Netflix subscribers on iOS and Android platforms. The game is free to download and play, with no additional costs or in-app purchases, aligning with Netflix’s strategy to enhance its value proposition through interactive content.

Embrace The Hype!

With Thronglets, Netflix has expanded the Black Mirror universe beyond passive viewing, offering an interactive experience that challenges players to confront the ethical implications of their digital interactions. By merging gameplay with narrative, the game exemplifies the potential of transmedia storytelling to deepen audience engagement. As technology continues to evolve, Thronglets serves as both entertainment and a cautionary tale, prompting reflection on the responsibilities that come with digital creation and interaction.

For those intrigued by the intersection of technology, morality, and interactive storytelling, Thronglets offers a compelling and thought-provoking experience.

It allows you to charge Matterspark over time or with arc pockets. Once charged, you can use your super button to create an explosion that breaks the Matterspark shields and destroys objects. Players will need to use this in the fight against a Boss Minatour that features Matterspark shields. As with previous bosses, the Minatour has health gates where players must find Vex boxes to break the shield. Killing him gives the next Acceleron and unlocks another mission. Edge of Fate: Calculus Walkthrough Using the previous learnt Matterspark, upgrade players’ progress through the opening section of the mission. Destroy the energy converters using the Matterspark Super. Once destroyed, two Wyverns block your path. Take them out to proceed. You will need to use the Matterspark Super to break their shields. To progress past the barrier, use Mattermorph to reveal the lenses. Break the lenses by shooting them. As you progress further, the Vex and Exiles are fighting each other. Taking them out, and the Boss Brig will bring down the barrier. Head inside to find the Relocator. Return to the lasers to reach the relays. Rotate both relays three times to pass the lasers and earn your rewards. Traverse through until you reach another barrier. Take down the disruptors to proceed through. Break the Quarantine After a Rally Banner, you come across two shielded Cyclops. Be careful of their attacks; they can slow you and deal significant damage. You get the last Capsule and your rewards. Before you return to the Altar, a new mission requires your attention.

Cowboys make questionable move amid Micah Parsons stalemate

The Dallas Cowboys extended one of their stars Sunday, just not the one fans wanted them to pay. At Cowboys training camp Saturday, Dallas fans serenaded owner Jerry Jones with "Pay Micah [Parsons]" chants. The EDGE, of course, is set to play on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract this season. Jones must not have been listening. He gave tight end Jake Ferguson a new contract instead. Dallas and the 26-year-old pass-catcher agreed to a four-year, $52M contract extension, via NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. This move seems head-scratching. Parsons has won the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year and earned two first-team All-Pro nods since the Cowboys took him with pick No. 12 in the 2021 NFL Draft. The 26-year-old EDGE also finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Ferguson, meanwhile, is solid but not elite. In three seasons with the Cowboys, the 2022 fourth-round pick has made one Pro Bowl and has never finished with more than 761 receiving yards in a season. An extension for Parsons will devour future cap space. The Cowboys may be worried about that after giving quarterback Dak Prescott (four years, $240M) and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (four years, $136M) long-term deals in 2024. Pittsburgh Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt signed a lucrative three-year, $123M extension on July 17, making him the league's highest-paid non-QB. Parsons could command a similar contract. If cap space is Dallas' primary concern, however, why would it extend Ferguson? He's now set to be the NFL's seventh-highest-paid TE. The Cowboys waited to extend Lamb and Prescott just before the start of the 2024 season. They may be doing the same with Parsons. The star defender has said, "Ownership is always gonna make [contract negotiations] drag out." Regardless, the Cowboys should've paid Parsons before Ferguson. That's a much bigger priority for the team.

Celtics Rumors: Damian Lillard, Neemias Queta, Ben Simmons

Damian Lillard was briefly linked to the Celtics after being waived and stretched by the Bucks, but that possibility came and went quicker than a Jrue Holiday text. Turns out Holiday did shoot his shot. “As soon as I was waived … he sent me the eyeball emoji,” Lillard said at his introductory presser in Portland. “I already knew where I was pivoting to when he sent it, but I didn’t want to say nothing too soon, so here we are.” “Here” is back in a Trail Blazers uniform. And while Lillard isn’t expected to play this season as he recovers from a torn Achilles, the idea of him as a long-term Jayson Tatum insurance policy briefly crossed Boston’s radar. That was about as far as it got. As MassLive’s Brian Robb wrote, the Celtics never had the financial path to compete with Portland’s three-year, $42 million offer. Boston only has the $5.7M taxpayer MLE to work with — and using that might’ve meant shedding some other salary just to stay under the second apron. Who’s starting at center? In a new mailbag, Robb projects Neemias Queta as the likely starting center if the roster stays put. That would give Boston a lineup of Queta, Jaylen Brown, and Derrick White, with the last two spots up for grabs. Payton Pritchard vs. Anfernee Simons at point guard? Sam Hauser vs. Georges Niang at forward? Maybe Josh Minott sneaks into the mix? Yeah, it’s July. But hey, the debates have begun. No Davison, slim Simmons ddds Boston officially parted ways with JD Davison this week, ending a three-year run with the former second-round pick. According to Robb, the team just didn’t see NBA-level growth. And what about that open roster spot? Ben Simmons is out there. But Robb pegs the odds of Simmons landing in Boston at just 10-20 percent, mainly because he’s expected to get better money (and probably a bigger role) elsewhere. More NBA News Rumors

New suitor emerges for Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez

The Arizona Diamondbacks have plenty of suitors for third baseman Eugenio Suarez. A new team has reportedly entered the market for his services. Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Phillies have reached out regarding Suarez. While Lauber did not provide any indication as to whether or not those talks have gained traction, the Phillies are an intriguing suitor for the Diamondbacks' third baseman. The Phillies' interest may be a recent development. Jon Heyman of the New York Post speculated on Friday that the Phillies could emerge as a suitor in the wake of third baseman Alec Bohm landing on the injured list with a fractured left rib. Suarez is in the midst of what is arguably his best season thus far. He has produced a .249/.321/.587 batting line in 421 plate appearances entering Saturday with 36 homers and a major league-leading 87 RBI. Suarez would be more than just another powerful bat in the lineup. Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and first baseman Bryce Harper are both left-handed hitters — adding Suarez would provide more balance in the batting order. He would also provide a counter against opposing managers bringing in a lefty reliever to face Schwarber and Harper. The biggest question would be how the Phillies would handle an eventual logjam on the roster. Bohm is expected to return from the IL in mid-August and would not have a clear path to regular at-bats if Suarez were acquired. Schwarber could theoretically return to left field to open up playing time at the DH spot, but his outfield defense is mediocre at best. However, as the Phillies are also looking to upgrade the outfield, where Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh have been disappointments, adding Suarez could solve several problems in one fell swoop.
