Resident Evil Requiem has been out for a couple of weeks now, and people have already released modded versions of the game. Some of them are pretty questionable, like the shirtless Leon mod that’s been trending online, and others have actually changed game mechanics to pose new challenges for players.

One mod has caught the attention of many players, and that’s the mod that makes zombie bites infectious and potentially lethal. I’ve found this mod to be one of the more interesting ones out there because of how much it changes your gameplay, making things way more challenging than they already are in Resident Evil Requiem. Here are all the details you need to know about this mod and how you can download and install it on your game.

Zombie Bites Are Infectious

In this installment in the Resident Evil series, we saw the return of a fan-favorite character and made our way back to the city that started it all, Raccoon City. The nostalgia definitely hit hard for longtime fans of the series, and one other thing that Resident Evil Requiem brought back was the iconic Resident Evil zombies. Victor Gideon uses a mutated version of the infamous T-virus, infecting regular people and the entire staff of the Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center.

With the return of the iconic Resident Evil zombies, which we haven’t seen since Resident Evil 6, there’s a mod that can make zombie bites infectious and can potentially kill you during your playthrough. This is definitely a different way to deal with zombies, not just in a Resident Evil game but in zombie games in general. Typically, you don’t have to worry about zombie bites or worry that you’ll turn into a zombie over time. This mod adds that challenge and raises the tension about getting bitten by a zombie.

Bites Matter is the name of the mod that makes each zombie’s signature move infectious as well as damaging. Getting bitten as either Leon or Grace will cause you to be infected, slowly draining your health over time. The infection also progresses if you keep getting bitten or just ignore the infection. The only way to get rid of the infection is to use healing items, but only the Med Injector actually cures it. This mod definitely poses a challenge for players and makes the gameplay a lot more exciting.

How to Download and Install the Mod

So, how do you download and install the Bite Matter mod for Resident Evil Requiem? Like all mods, they are created by people outside of the developer team that created the game and can only be accessed on specific websites that offer game modification downloads. The Bites Matter mod is available to download on the Nexus Mods website for free. You need to have the latest REFramework for Resident Evil Requiem, and this mod is only available for the PC version of the game.

Resident Evil Requiem is fast becoming one of the best games of 2026. Since its release, it has shattered records, like having the highest concurrent player count on Steam among Resident Evil games, and has sold over 6 million copies of the game across all platforms. Mind you, the game has only been out for a few weeks now, and the numbers are definitely expected to climb.

With all the hype surrounding Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom is even working on a DLC for the game, expected to be released within the coming months. The DLC will feature the addition of photo mode, a surprise coming in May, which is rumored to be a mini-game for Resident Evil Requiem, and a story expansion that will delve deeper into the world of Requiem. Things are definitely hot for the game right now, and Capcom is reaping the benefits.
