The Nintendo Switch 2 has been the subject of massive controversy due to the prices of the system and the games. The system itself will cost $450, while the games will cost $70 or even $80. Now, in addition to the other high prices, the system’s accessories will be seeing a price increase.
Preorders for the console were already delayed due to Donald Trump’s tariffs. Even though the new preorder date has now been set to April 25th, the tariffs are now affecting the accessory prices. According to Nintendo’s official site, “Nintendo Switch 2 accessories will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions.” The site also states that, “Other adjustments to the price of any Nintendo product are also possible in the future depending on market conditions.”
According to IGN, most of the accessories experienced a $5 increase in price, but the Switch 2 dock set’s price was raised by $1o. Since the Switch 2 was already experiencing backlash for its high prices, gamers are not likely to be happy with this revelation. Even though outside forces like inflation and Trump’s tariffs play a large factor in the Switch 2’s prices, one has to wonder how high the prices can go before people simply give up on Nintendo.
The suggested prices on Nintendo’s official website are as follows:
Nintendo Switch 2 – $449.99
Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle – $499.99
Mario Kart World – $79.99
Donkey Kong Bananza – $69.99
Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller – $84.99
Joy-Con 2 Pair – $94.99
Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip – $39.99
Joy-Con 2 Strap – $13.99
Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set – $24.99
Camera – $54.99
Dock Set – $119.99
Carrying Case & Screen Protector – $39.99
All-In-One Carrying Case – $84.99
AC Adapter – $34.99
Samsung microSD Express Card – 256GB for Nintendo Switch™ 2 – $59.99
This means that if someone wants to play Mario Kart World with four players, they will have to pay almost $600.
Since Nintendo indicated that future price changes are possible, does that mean it’s a better strategy to buy the Switch 2 as soon as it launches, or wait and see if the prices go down? Even though people were chanting “DROP THE PRICE!” in the chatbox during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, it is unlikely that Nintendo will drop prices just because fans ask them to. With the uncertainty of today’s economy, we might see games cost even more in the future.
