With the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, there also comes the arrival of GameCube games on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Fans have long been asking for games from the underrated system to be included in the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, and now their wishes have finally come true. There’s also an extra treat for GameCube fans: the GameCube’s iconic start-up screen.

How to View the GameCube Start-Up Screen on the Nintendo Switch 2

According to Nintendo Life, all you need to do is hold the left analogue stick in any direction while starting the GameCube app and selecting your user profile. Voila, the GameCube start-up animation that you remember from the 2000s will play. It’s great that Nintendo has made this easter egg so simple to find instead of requiring a lot of complicated button sequencing.

The Legacy of the GameCube and Its Start-Up Screen

Although the GameCube didn’t sell as well as its competition, it is still fondly remembered by many fans. It was a system with a lot of personality, and one of the things that contributed to that personality was its start-up screen. The little purple cube rolling around to create the larger GameCube logo let the players know that they were in for a quirky, memorable experience. The start-up music was even referenced in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, where it was used as the ringtone on Luigi‘s phone.

The Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube Games

There are currently three GameCube games on Nintendo Switch Online: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soul Calibur 2, and F-Zero GX. You need both a Nintendo Switch 2 and a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription to access the GameCube library. More games will be added to the GameCube collection as time goes on.

Conclusion

Although I still haven’t been able to order a Nintendo Switch 2 for myself, it looks like it’s shaping up to be a nifty system. Easter eggs like this one show that Nintendo has put a lot of love into the system and cares about fans’ enjoyment. Whenever I get a Switch 2, I’ll definitely be catching a look at the GameCube start-up screen.
