Nintendo Switch Online added two games to its ever-growing retro collection in July. Nintendo Switch 2 owners were likely pleased with the new additions, but if you still only have a Switch 1, you might be feeling a bit left out by now. Here are the games that Nintendo Switch Online added in July.
This game was added to the Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive GameCube collection early in the month. It’s a quirky soccer game where you play as Super Mario characters such as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, and more. The goalies are also alligators for some reason. The gameplay is fast-paced, and there are power-ups such as blue shells and bombs that you can use to gain an advantage. It’s basically what you’d expect from a soccer game, but like all Mario sports games, it’s full of personality.
Originally released for the SNES, it was designed for use with the Super NES Mouse. Since the Switch 2 has mouse controls built into the Joy-Cons, people with a Switch 2 can draw, animate, and create music with this fun art program that, like Strikers, is full of personality. There’s also a minigame where you swat flies – I’m not kidding. However, if you only have a Switch 1, you have to attach your own mouse to the system, which I wasn’t able to do. I also found the mouse controls on my new Switch 2 to be a bit unresponsive, but that might have been due to the surface I was using.
Even though I have a Switch 2 now, I still hope that next month, Nintendo Switch Online adds some games that can be enjoyed on the Switch 1 without extra equipment. While the Switch 2 is starting to become more available, Nintendo shouldn’t forget the loyal Switch 1 owners. Still, Super Mario Strikers and Mario Paint are both great additions to the retro library.
