One of the highlights of having a Nintendo Switch Online membership is the plethora of retro games that come with a subscription, especially when you have the Expansion Pack that adds even more games. The game collections are frequently updated, meaning that there will almost always be something new to play. Let’s take a look at the games that were added to Nintendo Switch Online in May of 2025.
Killer Instinct Gold was added to the Nintendo 64 library in May. The fighting game emphasizes combos to pull off special moves and features a plethora of memorable characters, along with awesome music. There are various modes such as arcade, tournament, and team battles. While I fully admit that I’m terrible at fighting games that aren’t Super Smash Bros., I still had fun with this game. It’s a welcome addition to the library.
Game Boy and fans got a special treat in May when four new games were added to the Nintendo Switch Online library. Kirby’s Star Stacker is a cute stacking puzzle game starring Kirby and his friends. It’s not particularly original, but it’s worth playing. Gradius: Interstellar Assault is a shoot-em-up full of arcade action that lets players choose when they use power-ups. Sword of Hope is a command-based RPG that uses a point-and-click-style interface to perform actions. It’s not for everyone, but those who have the patience will find a rewarding experience. Finally, Survival Kids is a charming adventure that has you stranded on a desert island. You have to apply your survival and exploration skills to find your father.
All of these games are fine additions to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library. If you like RPGs and adventure games, Sword of Hope and Survival Kids are worth checking out. Puzzle fans can enjoy Kirby’s Star Stacker, shoot-em-up lovers will eat up Gradius: Interstellar Assault, and fans of fighters will definitely appreciate Killer Instinct Gold. Overall, Nintendo offered a good variety this month. Next month, GameCube Games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, and I’m already excited about that.
