If you live in Canada and you have a Nintendo Switch Online account, you may be in for some bad news. Nintendo is making pricing adjustments for Nintendo Switch Online in Canada, which is a polite way of saying that they’re raising the prices.

Nintendo Switch Online Price Increases in Canada

According to Nintendo World Report, these are the price increases for Nintendo Switch Online accounts in Canada.

  • Individual 1 month basic: $6 (from $5)
  • Individual 3 months: $12 (from $10)
  • Individual 1 year: $30 (from $25)
  • Family 1 year: $50 (from $45)
  • Individual 1 year Expansion Pack: $70 (from $64)
  • Family 1 year Expansion Pack: $110 (from $100)

In addition, Nintendo’s official site states that “Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch™ family of systems and products in Canada will change based on market conditions.” While it doesn’t say outright that the prices for the Switch 1 are increasing, the “marketing conditions” brought on by Trump’s tariffs likely mean a price hike. Yes, an older system might see its prices increase.

Are US Price Hikes Coming?

Trump’s tariffs have already caused the prices of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories to go up shortly before the Switch 2’s release. While the Nintendo Switch 2 console and games haven’t seen price hikes (yet), as “market conditions” grow increasingly uncertain, there’s a chance that Nintendo will decide that US prices will need an adjustment as well. Since the Switch 2 recently added GameCube games to Nintendo Switch Online’s retro collection, they might add another, more expensive tier to the service if they add more systems like the DS and Wii in the future.

Conclusion

The Switch 2 met with massive controversy for its high price and the high game prices, but people are still rushing to buy it. However, if Nintendo keeps increasing prices, players will eventually reach a point where they say, ‘enough’s enough.” Even if market conditions force Nintendo to make difficult decisions with prices, they need to keep their customers in mind. A reasonably priced game might end up making more money than an expensive game in the long run.
