If you were one of the players excited about an Outriders 2 game (raises hand), then do we have some bad news for you! People Can Fly, the Polish studio known for Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, revealed that jobs were at stake when two projects were canceled at the beginning of June. One was Project Gemini, and the other was Project Bifrost.
The CEO, Sebastian Wojciechowski, hadn’t specified which publishers were involved at the beginning—but the PCF website confirmed that Gemini was partnered with Square Enix (dread fills you).
A report came out of Thumb Wars and was verified by Insider Gaming (the beasts that they are) that claimed Gemini was the Outriders sequel.
What makes the situation even worse? Gemini was in the middle of recording motion capture when it was canceled. Square Enix declined to comment when IGN called with the question. People Can Fly hasn’t even replied to the claim yet.
What could possibly be the reason behind this cancellation, hmmm?
Well, the company was scaled down when it laid off about 120 people at the end of last year. As of now, it seems they’re working with Krafton (PUBG) and Sony on projects Echo and Delta, along with Microsoft on Gears of War: E-Day.
IGN gave Outriders a 7/10 review—though personal opinion would disagree on this. The Outriders game is a typical “humans can never have good things” storyline, where Earthlings try to find a new home after destroying Earth and end up on Enoch.
Problem! By a nice little act of chance, when our MC arrives on Enoch, something is already wrong with the planet—and, guess what? Earthlings were the cause.
The story might be basic, but the use of sci-fi elements blended with FPS gameplay made this game worth playing for many fans of the genre.
