Palworld 1.0 Aims to Redefine Survival Crafting With Huge Upgrades and Genre‑Shaking Ambition

If you’ve been quietly keeping tabs on Palworld since its explosive early access launch, now is a good time to start paying closer attention. Pocketpair Publishing’s head of publishing and communications, John “Bucky” Buckley, recently sat down with GamesRadar+ at the Game Developers Conference and dropped some genuinely exciting hints about what Palworld 1.0 has in store. The short version? It’s big. Bigger than you’re probably expecting.

Pocketpair Believes Palworld 1.0 Will Redefine the Survival Crafting Genre

Buckley didn’t hold back when talking about the team’s ambitions for the full release. He described it as the kind of survival crafting game that every fan of the genre has always pictured in their head, the one they’ve been waiting for without quite knowing it.

“There are so many incredible survival crafting games, but I think every survival crafting gamer has their own ideal version of what survival crafting should be,” Buckley said. “We hope Palworld 1.0 will be that kind of something for everyone, lose yourself in this world, survival crafting game.”

That’s a bold claim. But here’s the thing: Pocketpair has already proven they know how to surprise people. Palworld launched in early access and promptly broke Steam records, drawing in millions of players almost overnight. So when Buckley says the team has managed to achieve something that will genuinely shock fans with Palworld 1.0, it’s probably worth taking seriously.

What We Know About the Palworld 1.0 Update

Details are still being kept close to the chest, and Buckley was upfront about that. “It’s still quite top secret,” he admitted. “There’s gonna be things that surprise people. I think people will be shocked at what we’ve been able to achieve for 1.0.”

What he did confirm is that the update will touch every part of the game, not just the end game content that veteran players have already burned through. The early game is being improved, the mid-game is being fleshed out, and the later stages are being expanded. Buckley summed it up pretty cleanly: “We’ve tried our best to expand everything, kind of something for everyone, really.”

Should You Start a New Save for Palworld 1.0?

Here’s where it gets interesting for returning players. Pocketpair isn’t forcing anyone to wipe their save files when Palworld 1.0 drops. You can absolutely load up your existing character and pick up where you left off, no one is taking that away from you.

That said, the developers are softly recommending a fresh start, and the reasoning makes sense. Because so many systems are changing, from the opening hours all the way through to the endgame, jumping in mid-progress means you’ll likely miss out on experiencing those changes the way they were intended. Buckley explained it plainly: “Everything is going to change from the beginning to the end, it’s all going to change.”

So if you’re a completionist, or just someone who wants the full Palworld 1.0 experience without any gaps, a new playthrough sounds like the move.

Why Palworld 1.0 Is One of the Most Anticipated Updates of the Year

Survival crafting is one of the most competitive spaces in gaming right now, particularly on PC. Games like Valheim, Rust, and Ark: Survival Evolved have each carved out enormous fanbases, and every new entry has to work twice as hard to earn a place among them. Palworld already did that during early access, and Pocketpair is clearly swinging for something even bigger with the full release.

Buckley described the genre as “a very Steam genre, for all its woes and highs,” which is honestly one of the more refreshingly honest things a developer has said about the platform in a while. There’s a self-awareness there that suggests the team knows exactly what space they’re operating in and what it takes to stand out.

Whether Palworld 1.0 can actually deliver on those promises remains to be seen, but the developers clearly believe they’ve built something worth getting excited about. If even half of what Buckley is hinting at turns out to be true, this could be one of the most significant updates to hit the survival crafting genre in years.
