Wombo Games, a Copenhagen game developer headed by IO Interactive co-founder Janos Flösser, has announced its first game, Raiders of Blackveil, an action-RPG roguelite that mixes MOBA-style champions, loot-based development, and PvE extraction gameplay.
Due for Steam Early Access later this summer (Summer 2025), it offers both single-player and three-player co-op, an anthropomorphic animal heroes set in a dystopian industrial fantasy world, and deep buildcrafting across eight character classes. Backed by veterans of Hitman, Tomb Raider, and Deus Ex, Raiders of Blackveil promises a strategic, replayable experience developed by consensus and community feedback!
Wombo Games is led by IO Interactive co-founder and former Square Enix Chief Creative Officer Janos Flösser, who brings experience from Hitman, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Tomb Raider. The Copenhagen-based studio comprises 21 developers who have previously worked on such high-profile brands as Kane & Lynch, Just Cause, and Freedom Fighters.
Emphasizing a flat company organization and consensus decision-making, Wombo Games aims to leverage every member’s expertise in creating Raiders of Blackveil, its “studio blueprint” for future projects.
Champions are chosen from an anthropomorphic animal pool of champions, each being one of eight classes, the Assassin, Druid, Guardian, Mage, Monk, Priest, Warlock, and Warrior, and based on traditional MOBA roles. Four champions will launch, each representing the tank, DPS, and support archetypes, with further development in the pool after launch being planned.
Every raid pays out RPG-style loot: equipment, gadgets, consumables, and permanent upgrade currency. Over 300 perks, grouped into the eight class archetypes, offer rich buildcrafting while “Duo Perks” enable synergistic team builds for debilitating damage. The loot-chase loop drives replayability, marrying roguelite randomness with MOBA-level tuning.
Raiders of Blackveil includes single-player or online three-player co-op. Every raid tasks the team with entering Blackveil’s giant factory, causing destruction, and getting loot before rushing forces locking down, copying high PvE extraction hits. Permadeath between executions maintains pressure high, with ongoing progression on each raid to make you that little bit more effective. Story & Setting
Set in a dystopian industrial fantasy world, the anthropomorphic citizens toil at the mercy of the ruthless Blackveil mega-corporation. You, as an ally champion raider, join the rebellion to destroy factory manufacturing, free prisoners, and uncover Blackveil’s exploitation. The narrative, conveyed through mission objectives and environmental storytelling, focuses on themes of resistance, solidarity, and reclaiming one’s homeland.
Wombo Games has labored behind the scenes to develop Raiders of Blackveil for nearly two years, iterating and playtesting through internal consensus and player feedback roadmaps. The studio officially announced the game on April 24, 2025, alongside its founding. Raiders of Blackveil releases into Steam Early Access in Summer 2025, with a Steam wishlist already live. Early Access will see community-driven updates, additional champions, and feature additions along the way toward a full release.
What is one of the most appealing aspects of Raiders of Blackveil is that it’s synergistic teamplay. Every character has their own unique personality and perk tree, but real magic happens when players learn how to sync up their gadgets and perks so that they can create spectacular combo effects. These Duo Perks reward clever teams who can plan out and improvise during gameplay. Whether you’re shielding allies as a Guardian or blasting fire as a Warlock, team makeup is as crucial as individual talent.
With all these RPGs already available (and so many more to come), Raiders of Blackveil is a high-stakes genre mashup from a team of industry veterans that threatens strategic complexity, rich customization, cooperative excitement, and most of all, something new to look forward to.
With Early Access looming this summer, Wombo Games invites players to join the rebellion, optimize builds, and help create the game’s future. Wishlist now on Steam and get ready to unleash pandemonium on Blackveil!
