Have you ever wished you could rewind time? In Recur, you can do just that. Recur is an upcoming puzzle platform game built around a simple mechanic: you walk to the right to make time move forward, and you walk to the left to make time move backward. With this ingenious mechanic, you can perhaps undo disasters.
The gameplay was featured at the Future Game Show showcase during Gamescom 2025. In Recur, you play as a postman who can walk to the right to make time move forward and to the left to make time move backward. The trailer shows how this mechanic can be utilized to avert disasters, including a train wreck. The trailer states, “This city needs a lot of fixing, so take your fate into your own hands and rewrite time.” It looks like the game will tap into everyone’s innate desire to turn back time and fix the past, which should be very satisfying.
The side-scrolling world of Recur is colorful and painterly, making the game appealing to the eye. The stylized look seems to perfectly fit the surreal logic of turning back time simply by walking in a different direction, and the music played in the trailer is relaxing, but with a bit of an edge. You can probably expect to nearly die a lot in this game, but since you have time on your side, you can reverse your fate as many times as you want. The pretty graphics should also help to make the game less frustrating, since you can get enjoyment simply from looking at the screen.
Recur looks like it will be perfect for those who enjoy puzzle platformers with creative mechanics. When all you need to do in order to reverse time is turn around, the timeline will be yours to play around with. It should encourage some creative puzzle solving. The game will be coming to PC and can be wishlist on Steam, but it doesn’t yet have a release date. Here’s hoping it lives up to the promising trailer.
