The League of Legends community lost a Legend yesterday. Maciej “Shushei” Ratuszniak passed away yesterday at the age of 36, as confirmed by his family. He tragically lost his battle with Cancer. The Community mourns and remembers one of the early pioneers of League of Legends Esports, with many well-known members of the LoL Esports community taking to X to share their condolences and memories of the FNATIC midlaner.
Shushei retired as a professional player in 2013, but already had an illustrious career. He was the midlaner for the FNATIC roster that won the first World Championship. With the victory, he earned himself the FNATIC Gragas skin, immortalizing himself in the game’s history. He earned the Finals MVP for the series.
That would not be the only achievement in his career, as he was the Pioneer for AP Alistar and became one of the first players to pilot Vi and Evelynn in the mid-lane. He would win IEM Season 6 in New York with FNATIC and IEM Hanover 2011 with myRevenge. Players and fans remember Shushei for his bubbly personality and iconic moments, like his Gragas body slam while playing for the team DragonBorns.
FNATIC posted on X: “Yesterday we lost a legend in Shushei. Shushei was part of the incredible Fnatic team that won the first ever League of Legends World Championships back in 2011, which began the Fnatic LoL fandom for so many of our fans. Our thoughts are with his friends and family.” They also changed their X banner to their Gragas skin.
Other big community names like LEC Host Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere, and former FNATIC and current Ruddysack Head Coach Jakob “YamatoCannon” Mebdi took to X to express their condolences. Sjokz: “Rest in peace, Shushei… one of the first greats of our game. Way too young to go… no words.” YamatoCannon: “RIP legend. I will never forget the memories we share.”
We at Total Apex Media express our condolences to his family, friends, and everyone who knew, supported, and was inspired by Shushei. May you rest in peace, Legend.
