Silent Hill f Fans Are Deep in Controversy Trying to Make Hinako More Beautiful

Silent Hill f has had an incredible opening week, selling one million copies of the game in the first four days of release, and earning an 87 Metacritic score. In this game, you play as a Japanese high school girl in the 1960s named Hinako Shimizu. Given that this is a psychological horror game, the appearance of the main character shouldn’t be a focal point in any way, right? Right? I guess some people didn’t understand that.

Silent Hill f Hinako Shimizu

Hinako Shimizu is a fictional character, a Japanese high school student in the 1960s who becomes trapped in a foggy and hellish version of her hometown, Ebisugaoka. Throughout the game, many side characters remark that Hinako is a little tomboyish and doesn’t act like a traditional young woman of this time period. This gets her into a lot of trouble within her family life and friend group. Now, it seems like this is extending into the real world, with fans questioning if she is “pretty” enough to be a main character, even though she is a fictional child…

Fans Are Cringely Changing Her Appearance to Look More “Kawaii”

This is such an unfortunate situation to come across. A group of fans is not only complaining about her appearance, but there are mods out for Silent Hill f, which changes the appearance of her face, making it more “kawaii”, the Japanese term for cute. Some people are even complaining about the fact that they cannot see up her skirt… This is a disturbing situation all around, not only because it objectifies Hinako, but she is literally a teenager! Here are some quotes from real players, who have a real problem:

 “modelling optimisation

“Western market censorship”

“the mods saved the game” because her “face is certainly prettier”

“refine her nose a bit more”

“make the jaw a bit smaller”

This has caused an explosive reaction from a large portion of players who find this behavior weird and disgusting. The mod has over 3,000 unique downloads already. People are angry over this objectification of a fictional child in a video game, as it mirrors real situations that women still go through, even today. This has nothing to do with being political, but everything to do with morality.

It’s uncomfortable to post objectifying nonsense online over something that isn’t even real, and even more disturbing that so many people found Hinako’s appearance “not good enough” and in need of modification.
