Silent Hill f has had a successful week and a half, selling more than one million copies in its first day of launch. This was also the game that presented a brand new storyline, introducing new characters since Silent Hill: Downpour, which came out in 2012. With the reception being overall good, what should fans expect in future installments of the series? Silent Hill f producer, Motoi Okamoto, weighs in on this during an interview with IGN Japan.

Silent Hill f Success

The success of Silent Hill f wasn’t a surprise at all, at least for me. Personally, I’ve been waiting for this game since its announcement in October a few years ago, and the hype for the game has skyrocketed since. With the full release of the game, the game has shattered records by selling one million copies in one day, far surpassing the Silent Hill 2 Remake’s record of selling one million copies in one week.

Though the game has gained ire from fans for the added combat system that wasn’t necessarily present in previous games, it’s still been such a hit since its release last week, and judging from the 87 Metacritic score the game received, players are enjoying the game anyway. In an interview with IGN Japan, Motoi Okamoto addresses the success of this newest and the future of the series moving forward.

Future Installments Won’t Follow Silent Hill f’s Footprints

During the interview, Okamoto clarifies that games moving forward will have their own distinct feel to them, while maintaining that dark and oppressive atmosphere the Silent Hill franchise is known for. Okamoto says,

“Of course, that doesn’t mean every future Silent Hill will be like Silent Hill f. Each one will have its own distinct flavour. We want to keep experimenting and be ambitious, both in terms of gameplay design and storytelling, so please look forward to the next Silent Hill as well,”

“I believe psychological stories are essential to what makes Silent Hill feel like Silent Hill, and we’ll continue to place great importance on that in future works as well,”

Konami has already announced the next installment of the series called Silent Hill: Townfall, which was announced back in 2022. Not many details are known about this upcoming game, but players should expect another brand new story that is different from Silent Hill f, if we listen to anything Okamoto has said.
