While many of you are probably playing Silksong because you played Hollow Knight, there are undoubtedly several players who are completely new to these games. As such, they might be a touch frustrated with the game’s various mechanics. To that end, here are a few tips to help you out. They are nothing groundbreaking, but still, they have to be said.

Talk to Everyone

Probably goes without saying, but the best way to find out what’s going on without a guide is to talk to all the NPCs. They reveal important information, give useful hints, and occasionally lead to important tasks or events down the line. If you don’t want to look up the answer to everything, talk to the NPCs.

Master Pogo

Like in Hollow Knight, pogoing is a necessary skill that you will need to master to proceed through the game. The best place to go to work on mastering this mechanic is Hunter’s March. It effectively forces you to learn how to pogo correctly in order to progress through the area.

There are 2 other things that can help you on your journey to pogo perfection. The first is the Drifter’s Cloak. It gives you a chance to slow down your fall and reposition. You get by completing the Wish of the Seamstress, who is found in the southeast area of the Far Fields.

The second is changing your Crest. The Down-slash from the Hunter Crest is hard to aim and control, so it would be better for you to use the Reaper Crest. To get it, use the Drifter’s Cloak to take the air currents straight up in the middle section of the Far Fields until you reach Greymoor, then go 6 rooms to the left and up the west side to the Chapel of the Reaper. You’ll have to fight some annoying enemies to get it, but it’s worth it, trust me.

There’s No Shame in Resetting

If you Quit and Save your game, when you log back in, you will be returned to the last bench you rested. You’ll still have your Rosaries, and your health will be full. The only thing you won’t have is Silk. Sometimes you make a mistake, and it snowballs into a disaster. That’s ok. Just reset, take a breath, and try again.

Cheese It

If you can exploit a boss or fight, do so. There’s no point in giving yourself a coronary over an annoying fight when there’s an easy solution right in front of you.

Lose Some to Keep Some

Some merchants will offer a service where they string up your rosaries. It costs 80 rosaries, with you keeping 60 (via the string) and the merchant taking 20 as a fee. And while it might seem annoying to lose 20 rosaries every time you use this service, trust me, losing all of your rosaries because you didn’t make it back to your cocoon is far worse. Note, you can only hold 20 of these rosary strings at a time. You can also find some free-standing stringers that do the same thing for the same fee.

The Creed of Silksong: Be Patient

This game is not a race. More often than not, the reason you are failing is because you are rushing. Take a second, take a breath, and slow down. If you have to do a boss a few times to learn the best way to avoid its abilities, then so be it. If an enemy is playing coy, 9 times out of 10, rushing in will get you hit. Just slow down, and you’ll cut out a large chunk of what makes this game so frustrating.
