The trailer for Star Wars: Zero Company was unveiled at this week’s Star Wars Celebration. The game, set for release in 2026, is a turn-based tactical strategy game that takes place during the Clone Wars. While the trailer did not showcase much gameplay, it did show off an intriguing premise.

A large portion of the trailer is given voiceover narration. The unnamed narrator states, “When people talk about the Clone Wars, they talk about the big moments.” The narrator goes on to describe events such as “planetary invasions” and “all-out assaults.” He then tells the viewer, “Truth is, there’s a war you don’t see.” This leads to him telling the viewer about how the Clone Wars aren’t just about the dramatic moments and that “the war beneath the war” involves soldiers who “aren’t the heroes they tell stories about.” This obviously shows that the game will be telling the untold stories.

As the narration plays, the trailer gives us glimpses of the main characters. It looks like Zero Company is a small group consisting of a human officer named Hawks, another human in a spacesuit, a cyborg Jedi, a clone trooper, a Mandalorian, and an astrodroid.

How About the Gameplay?

The official EA site promises “a gritty and authentic story” without saying anything about the gameplay. The game’s Steam page calls it “a single-player turn-based tactics game” in which the lead characters will have to “set aside their differences to overcome nearly impossible odds.” This could mean that Zero Company will focus more on storytelling than gameplay. The little gameplay shown in the trailer seemed to emphasize standard cover-based tactics without showing off any special features.

Conclusion

Star Wars: Zero Company, focusing on the smaller aspects of war instead of the more dramatic moments, has plenty of storytelling potential. A ragtag group that needs to “set aside their differences” could mean that there might be some choice-based story paths to explore. If the characters are well-developed, seeing their interactions might be a treat. However, neither the trailer nor the official pages have advertised anything special about the gameplay.

Both Monopoly Go! and Disney Dreamlight Valley will be hosting Star Wars events next month, which could be Disney trying to dial up Star Wars hype. 2026 will see the release of a new theatrical movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, along with an animated series, Maul: Shadow Lord. With Star Wars: Zero Company also having a 2026 release, next year might see a glorious return for Star Wars.

Star Wars: Zero Company will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026.
