Eric Barone (better known as “ConcernedApe”), creator of the wildly successful indie farming simulator Stardew Valley, has been very passionate about the game since it launched. He has released frequent updates for the game, adding new content and features, keeping players interested in the game. Now, players can look forward to a new update while they wait for Barone’s next game, Haunted Chocolatier.
Barone made a post on X about the new update, stating, “Okay, I revealed this at the concert last night and now the cat’s out of the bag, so I will confirm for everyone: There will be a Stardew Valley 1.7 update. No release date, no estimate. But it’s happening.” The tweet was accompanied by an image that said, “There will be a Stardew Valley 1.7 update – ConcerenedApe.” Of course, the “no release date, no estimate” part of the tweet could mean that it will be several months or even a year before the update is actually released.
As much as players love Stardew Valley updates, one has to wonder about Barone’s next game, Haunted Chocolatier. In the game, you will become a chocolatier, running a chocolate factory full of ghosts, and it sounds amazing. However, Barone has stated that it could be five years before the game actually comes out. With such a long wait time, some players will undoubtedly wonder if Barone should perhaps concentrate on developing Haunted Chocolatier instead of working on updates for his older game. Updates could take time away from making the new game.
While we don’t yet know what sorts of additions will be included in the Stardew Valley 1.7 update, players will undoubtedly be happy to see it. It will probably drive millions of fans, myself included, back to their farms so they can try out the new features. Still, we want Haunted Chocolatier, and five years is already a long time to wait for it, but we can be patient. When a creator shows this much love for a game years after its launch, you have to appreciate it.
