Summer Game Fest gave us an exciting look at Super Meat Boy 3D, the latest chapter in the Super Meat Boy platforming series. Just like we’ve come to expect, this game looks like it will be full of blades, grinders, and lots of deaths, but this time, Super Meat Boy is heading into the third dimension.

The Super Meat Boy 3D Trailer

The trailer that was unveiled at Summer Game Fest begins with butterflies flying through a peaceful nature setting. Then, a green pipe that looks suspiciously like one of Mario’s pipes rises out of the ground, and in comes Super Meat Boy himself. And uh-oh, the villainous Dr. Fetus has kidnapped Super Meat Boy’s girlfriend Bandage Girl once again. It’s up to Super Meat Boy to rescue her again.

Death-Filled Gameplay

The trailer shows Super Meat Boy leaping and sliding his way through an isometric 3D world. Of course, the world is chock-full of grinders, blades, gears, and enemies, all determined to grind our hero up into tiny pieces. Super Meat Boy gets himself killed over and over and over again, with the series’ trademark red trailers marking where he’s already died. It promises to be another brutal entry in the series, and the addition of another dimension doesn’t seem to have toned down the difficulty one bit. Fans of the series can look forward to memorizing every level and slowly getting better as they keep dying.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a cozy game where you can just relax, look elsewhere. However, if you like fast-paced, hardcore platformers, Super Meat Boy is the series for you, and Super Meat Boy 3D looks like it will be a winner. With the upgraded graphics and the ability to take Super Meat Boy through a 3D world, it looks like it will be fun to keep dying and trying again. The game goes into early access in spring of 2026.
