The best, in my opinion, part of Dark Quest 4 is the characters. Despite having 10, none of them feel particularly repetitive or redundant. Each has their own playstyle and purpose. And, since you will have to switch between them due to the “Fatigue” mechanic, it would be wise to familiarize yourself with each of them.
The most basic of the melee characters. His passive abilities are focused around allowing him to attack more often, while his active abilities are a disable and a low damage ranged attack. He’s best played as a bruiser, rather than an outright tank.
The quintessential spell caster. He has good single-target damage, 2 respectable AoE spells, a personal utility spell, and an extremely powerful debuff. Out of the 2 damage casters, he’s the most well-rounded.
This character makes very little sense. First of all, Dwarf is not a class; it’s a race. Secondly, his abilities are most centered around the creation of barrels, which can be used for damage, tanking, or hiding. Let’s just call him a niche character and move on.
The only physical ranged damage, Eldyr is exactly what you expect from a fantasy archer. His passive abilities provide him with chances to either evade attacks or deal additional damage, while his only active skill allows him to shoot multiple targets at once. Good damage but a little squishy, so be careful.
What Caldruis lacks in raw damage, he makes up for in coverage. He has 2 AoE spells and can summon minions (warning: they are uncontrollable). He does have one very strong single-target spell, but it requires him to be next to his target. Ishann is the better option in most cases, but Caldrius is the better choice if you, ironically, need more “control” over the fight. A word of caution, though, just like in DnD, his Fireball can hurt allies if it hits them, so aim carefully.
Of the tank, Bartram is rather an odd duck. His abilities mostly center around helping your other characters or acting in tandem with/retaliating for them. It would be best to use him in conjunction with other melee characters.
This is the sustain brusier. She has a passive ability that gives her a chance to heal whenever she kills an enemy and another passive ability that allows her to attack once more if she kills an enemy, so if you can get her strong enough, she can easily tank and wipe out several mooks by herself. Probably the best melee damage character.
Personally, Malkra has my vote for best tank. She has the ability to counterattack when she blocks, which allows her to weather a massive amount of attacks, while also clearing out an equally massive amount of enemies. There is one problem, though. Some enemies explode when they die. If you have to fight those, keep Malkra away from the or she’ll end up killing herself.
An interesting support character, the Prince’s abilities center around him issuing commands to your other units, allowing them to move or attack again. He can also summon a bodyguard that you can control. Pretty good character, though his utility can be hampered by when he acts in the turn order.
The healer of your decet of playable characters, Eveloria is pretty much everthing you expect from a cleric. She has a shield, a buff, a debuff, 2 forms of healing, and reflect. Probably one of the most stacked characters. Pity you can’t really bring her for every quest.
