The Destiny 2 Power Grind is Getting Worse

The Destiny 2 Power Grind in the Edge of Fate has felt monotonous and required players to play solo. You can power level the way you want, but that takes substantially longer. As a result, players have chosen to speed run solo ops activities like Caldera and K1 Logistics. In the Ash and Iron update, the grind is getting worse. The community is not happy with the changes.

Destiny 2 Power Grind Updates Seem Tone Deaf

The Destiny 2 grind for the upper echelon of players has become solo-focused. Players complained that the other activities did not grant enough rewards and were not worth running in comparison. In the recent TWID, Bungie announced the changes coming to Portal rewards. Solo Ops will grant one less power increase, Fireteam Ops should become easier to reach A-tier rewards and give more drops, while Pinnacle Ops have lost some of their rewards.

Destiny 2 Players are angered by the changes Bungie has announced. They did not want Solo Ops rewards nerfed. They wanted the other activities brought up, while giving players incentives for changing between activities. Players will find the most optimal grind and stick to that, which will likely be one activity. Having increased rewards on other activities, beyond the bonus drops, will remain the best way to improve the Portal System.

Prime Engrams are the only way to increase your power from 400 to 450 in the current system, which will change to 500 to 550 with the Ash and Iron Update. Bungie wants players to go to Rahool in the tower to decrypt these engrams. It adds an unnecessary increase to the time spent in the power grind.

Sunshine at the End of the Tunnel

It is not all doom from the TWID. Some of the changes to the Portal should help players in the future. More activities in Fireteam and Pinnacle Ops give players more reward options. If they find a way to make them more rewarding, it will become massive W. With the power ceiling increasing, it becomes quicker for players to reach 450, meaning they will have the chance to earn tier 5 rewards. Ultimate difficulty also brings a higher difficulty for players and more Conquests for players to complete. Speaking of Conquests, Bungie is looking to make rewards from the activities repeatable, presenting more chances for Destiny 2 players to earn rewards.

The Biggest Destiny 2 TWID Victory is Past Rewards

One complaint from players is the FOMO of missing out on past season pass rewards and rewards from the Eververse store. In the Ashe and Iron Update, players will get the chance to redeem them. All recent season pass rewards will become available at the Monument to Seasons Past next to the Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower. The Seasonal Archive brings a new currency called Chronologs. These are earned from the active season pass from Ash and Iron onwards. Players can use these in the Seasonal Archive to purchase past rewards or instead buy materials, engrams, or currencies.
