Sul sul Simmers! The Sims team announced the release of The Sims Board Game via their official Discord yesterday, August 8, 2025. But, apparently, the game had already quietly released through Target! How could we have missed that? And what’s up with this game? How can you play the Sims on a board game anyway?

The Sims Board Game Announcement

On The Sims’ official Discord, they posted:

“We’re so excited to announce our new official The Sims Board Game! Main character energy? Fully unlocked. Bring the delightfully unpredictable world of The Sims to life with our new board game! Every game will play out a new story like a fresh save, so you’ll be able to play again and again and still be surprised.”

They did include a link, but that link appears to be broken at the moment, so we’ll give you some that do work at the end. We wouldn’t leave you hanging like that.

The How to Play Video

The Goliath team (makers of the game) generously posted a video on YouTube titled “The Sims Board Game: How to Play.” But, here’s the thing about that video: it’s not very instructive. We’re pretty experienced at games over here. And the idea of bringing the Sims to our tables is pretty exciting. This video was an excellent opportunity to build on that by walking through how to play. You know, step-by-step instructions and all that. They did not go that route.

In the video, they seem to jump around explaining various components of gameplay, but never get around to clearly demonstrating the gameplay loop. You may be left with a pretty good idea of how the game goes, but you’ll still need to read through those instructions so it all makes sense and you can teach your friends or family how to play with you.

What the Sims Board Game video does well is to show off the game components and bring in a lot of iconic Sims to gain interest. After all, the image of a cow plant is enough to get our attention. Still, it makes you wonder if it’s worth your hard-earned simoleons or if you should pass because it’s a dud that will just be a pretty decoration on the shelf.

To Buy or Not to Buy

That is the question, isn’t it? Well, here’s some more information to help with that decision.

Target lists the game at $19.99 (U.S.), but the game isn’t available for purchase right now. Amazon lists it for $24.99 (affiliate link), and it’s available for preorder shipping on August 15, 2025. Gamestop also has a preorder for $24.99, but it doesn’t ship until August 29. We don’t recommend waiting on Target. It might never come. But that’s up to you, of course. That $5 difference may be worth it. We like options.

For a die-hard Sims fan, the Sims Board Game looks like a must-have. And, we have one more video for you. This one is also from the Goliath YouTube channel and makes the game look a lot more fun, even if it doesn’t tell you how to play. Happy simming!
