The Top 3 PC-Only Games That Need a Console Release Yesterday
- Image by Nik via Unsplash

As the gaming community continues to push for cross-platform compatibility, a few standout titles remain stubbornly exclusive to PC, with no console release imminent. These PC games have built massive player bases, redefined their genres, and consistently top streaming charts. All the while, console gamers are still left out. Leaving out so many players has significant downsides.

Surely, PC game developers must realize that excluding such a large segment of the console gaming population limits both community growth and potential revenue. In an effort to help change that, here are the 3 top PC-only games that need a console release yesterday:

Arma 3 / Arma Reforger

For fans of hardcore military realism, Arma 3 stands as the gold standard. Bohemia Interactive’s tactical sandbox delivers massive open-world battles, detailed weapon mechanics, and immersive simulation unlike anything else available. While games like Call of Duty and Battlefield lean toward arcade action, with their console release, Arma demands precision, strategy, and teamwork.

Its spiritual successor, Arma Reforger, was designed as a stepping stone toward Arma 4 and brought some modern improvements, including engine upgrades and more accessible modding tools. Reforger also hinted at Bohemia’s ambitions to test the waters with console support, but so far, the series remains firmly on PC.

A console version of Arma wouldn’t just be a novelty, it would fill a genre gap that few games dare to approach on PlayStation or Xbox. With curated mod support and cross-platform multiplayer, Arma could lead a new wave of tactical shooters for console audiences seeking immersion and authenticity. The demand is there, and the technical capabilities of modern hardware make it more feasible than ever.

Counter-Strike 2

Of all the FPS games out there, Counter-Strike 2 has become one of the most dominant and competitive first-person shooters. It’s also held the top spot on Steam’s charts more than almost any game. Tracing its roots, the game was built on the legacy of the Counter-Strike series, which was born from the PC modding community’s work on Half-Life.

It’s a free-to-play game that rewards high-stakes tactical combat, precision, and teamwork over flashy graphics. Valve’s ongoing support keeps millions of players actively engaged with constant updates. With a vibrant esports scene and a loyal global fanbase, Counter-Strike 2 consistently ranks among the top-played games on Steam.

Unfortunately, Valve apparently favors PC players, since Counter-Strike 2 has no plans for a console release. It’s a shame, as porting the game to platforms like PlayStation and Xbox would open it up to an entirely new player base that has been largely untapped. Console players have shown strong interest in competitive shooters, and there is barely any distinction left from PCs—as long as console players can use both keyboard and mouse, and gyro controls. Let’s hope that Valve decides to give a console release a “Go go go!”

World of Warcraft

It would be hard to argue with the claim that World of Warcraft (WoW) is the most iconic MMO of all time. Although not the first, it was among the earliest, and since 2004, it has been at the top of the online gaming landscape. WoW has it all: expansive storytelling, massive cooperative raids, and a dedicated community of millions of players. Yet, more than two decades later, there is no console release in sight.

The idea of playing WoW on consoles might have seemed unfeasible in the past, but new generations of consoles feature raw power comparable to any dedicated gaming machine, modern UI customization, improved controller support via add-ons, and the option of using a keyboard and mouse. Expanding World of Warcraft to consoles would only increase the success of WoW’s world of Azeroth and could all but take over the market.

There have not been many long-form RPG experiences as of late, and WoW could use another push into the limelight, making the timing of a console release feel right. With future expansions already in development by Blizzard and a modern engine underpinning the game, WoW on PS5 and Xbox Series X would be a historic win for both Blizzard and the community.

One of the main advantages of playing on PC is the ability to mod the game. Granted, Counter-Strike 2 and WoW have been refined to the point where mods might no longer be necessary to compete on an equal playing field. Aside from aesthetics, a console release of each game could still allow the PC community to continue modding, with the best mods potentially being officially implemented and updated later in the console versions.
