The gaming world is reeling from the news about Titanfall 3. Electronic Arts (EA) recently confirmed they’ve canceled a Titanfall game that was in the works at Respawn Entertainment, and it’s left fans gutted. But here’s where it gets interesting: a leaker with a solid track record claims Titanfall 3 was nearly done before EA pulled the plug. Let’s break it all down.
On April 29, 2025, EA announced they were scrapping a Titanfall project and laying off hundreds of employees, including about 100 at Respawn Entertainment. They called it a “strategic realignment,” saying, “As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively align teams and allocate resources in service of driving future growth.” You can read more about it in this Variety article.
So, what was this game? Some, like Variety, hinted it was Titanfall 3, a proper third installment in the series. Others, like Bloomberg, said it was an extraction shooter codenamed R7, far from release. The mixed messages have left everyone scratching their heads.
Then came Osvaldatore, a leaker known for nailing Apex Legends scoops. On April 30, 2025, they tweeted, “Titanfall 3 is gone. Spoke again with source earlier this morning and everything about it was correct, including the ‘almost finished’, despite what that Bloomberg article said.” Check out the full post on X. They’re saying the game was almost ready to go. Pretty wild if true.
But not everyone’s buying it. Jeff Grubb, a trusted industry insider, shot back that it’s “not real.” He thinks Respawn might have some game ideas floating around for it, but nothing close to a finished Titanfall 3 for 2026
The series has never had it easy. The first game dropped in 2014, winning praise but not big sales. Titanfall 2 came in 2016 with an awesome campaign, yet it got buried under other releases. Fans love it, but EA’s always seemed lukewarm. Back in 2023, we learned Titanfall 3 was in development for 10 months before they ditched it for Apex Legends, which was another gut punch. Online, reactions are all over the place. Some fans are furious, while others aren’t sure what to believe. Could EA really cancel a game that was almost done? A few guess it might’ve been an extraction shooter, maybe hurt by flops like Marathon. Still, there’s hope. Grubb’s hints at smaller projects keep the dream alive.
The Titan Fall 3 cancellation stings, no doubt. But Respawn’s still busy with Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi, and who knows, maybe a spin-off isn’t off the table. For now, fans are left clinging to Titanfall 2 and crossing their fingers.
