TL;DW – LTA North Edition: TL Barely Beats LYON in Game 2

Week 4, Day 1, 1^st week of LTA North the best of 3 matches, TL vs LYON. TL’s score is 0-0, while LYON is 0-0. TL won the last game. LYON is playing on blue side, TL on red. The team roster for TL is Impact (top), UmTi (jungle), APA (mid), Yeon (carry), and CoreJJ (support). For LYON, the team is Licorice (top), Oddielan (jungle), Saint (mid), Hena (carry), and Lyonz (support). For specifics regarding early, mid, and late game, see the Terms at the bottom of the page.

Champion Selection: Carries Targeted

• Nothing unexpected in the initial bans as Naafiri, Yone, Taliyah, Vi, Gwen, Xin Zhao are removed.
• LYON picks Rumble first. TL choose Galio and Pantheon. LYON counters with Sejuani and Corki. TL finishes out first champion selection phase by taking Casseopia.
• Four ADCs are taking out during the second round of bans as Xayah, Ezreal, Miss Fortune, and Kai’Sa are removed.
• TL decided to take Kalista next. LYON takes Lucian and Milio. TL finishes champion selection with a Nautilus pick. LYON opt for a power team fighting comp with double ADCs. TL pick more CC and battlefield control.
• Team comps are: LYON – Rumble (top), Sejuani (jungle), Corki (mid), Lucian (carry), Lyonz (support) vs TL – Galio (top), Pantheon (jungle), Casseopia (mid), Kalista (carry), Nautilus (support).

Early Game Highlights: LTA Likes to Get Scrappy

• Early game starts out mostly normal. High aggression in bot lane. Yeon, Hena, and Lyonz all get very low and have to heal up with pots.
• UmTi invades, steals Red Buff, gets caught by Oddielan, and almost dies but manages to kill Oddielan instead for First Blood.
• In bot lane, Yeon and CoreJJ get Hena very low. He has to burn his Flash to survive. Oddielan tries to gank bot but gets spotted out.
• Early game ends when Impact hits level 6. TL leads in gold (600) and farm.

Mid Game Highlights: TL Controls the Map

• UmTi and CoreJJ start up the first set of Voidgrubs. CoreJJ leaves to roam and UmTi finishes off the Grubs solo.
• Oddielan sets up around Drake but doesn’t take it. UmTi eventually comes down and starts it. APA comes down to help him. LYON move to contest, but Oddielan trapped by Miasma, then hooked by CoreJJ, and finally petrified. He dies to UmTi. Yeon has to ult to save CoreJJ from Hena’s damage. LYON back off and UmTi takes the First Drake (Cloud).
• Game enters a farming state. Both top and bot lanes switch. APA tries to go in on Saint, but Oddielan arrives and Ults him. Saint gets the kill. UmTi ganks Licorice with the help of Impact. Licorice Flashes but UmTi Flashes after him. Eventually, Licorice dies to UmTi.
• APA TPs in to mid lane but Oddielan is stand nearby. UmTi uses his Ult to cover for APA. Thanks to that, APA makes it to lane without any real issue. LYON starts the second set of Voidgrubs. They get 1 before TL push them off. TL then takes the remaining 2. This makes the current Grub count 5 for TL and 1 for LYON.
• Yeon and CoreJJ engage on Lyonz and Hena. CoreJJ manages to predict Hena’s dash and hooks him. Hena gets under turret as Oddielan comes up lane, preventing Yeon from diving for the kill. Everyone resets, though Oddielan sticks around a little longer just in case but eventually backs.
• Hena gets caught out in bot river, hooked by CoreJJ. APA’s Miasma keeps him from dashing away. APA gets the kill. In retaliation, Oddielan goes mid and ults Yeon point-blank. Yeon survives by Flashing. Meanwhile UmTi starts and takes the second drake (Ocean).
• UmTi, down in bot lane, tries to take out Saint, then switches targets to Lyonz. He is unable to kill either and is chase through red side bot jungle to river and has to Flash to survive.
• Hena and Lyonz push up to mid turret. Yeon tries to defend but Oddielan, who has been waiting in the wings, dives him. Oddielan gets the kill. UmTi tries to ult in but he’s too late.
• Mid game ends due to time. TL still has the lead in gold (1.5k) and farm.

Late Game Highlights: LYON Has an Aiming Issue

• Farming phase entered.
• TL take outer top turret for first turret of the game.
• UmTi starts up Rift Herald. LYON dance around the objective. Oddielan hovers around UmTi, who stuns him at the same time that CoreJJ and APA go in on Hena and Lyonz. Impact ults in to knock up Hena, who dies to APA. UmTi secures the objective, and LYON tries to run away but CoreJJ dives in using Yeon’s ult. He is almost immediately deleted by Licorice, who also takes out UmTi. Now TL scatter with Licorice, Oddielan, and Lyonz chasing after Yeon. As Yeon tries to run away, a pause comes through from APA
• TL reports a bug. Officials investigate. They announce that there was no bug, it just was a feature.
• The games restarts with Yeon still being chased. He eventually dies to Licorice. TL take mid turret. Game enters pushing and warding state.
• UmTi gets caught out. Has to use his Flash to get away. Before he backs, the drops Rift Herald bot lane to create some pressure as LYON start up the third Drake (Hextech). Both teams dance around the objective with no one really attacking it.
• Yeon almost gets caught out. UmTi ults to join in but almost immediately gets killed by Hena. Impact tries to save him with his ult but he’s too late. Oddielan secures the Drake as Herald takes LYON’s outer bot turret. TL flees but LYON’s give chase.
• Impact dives backwards and taunts 4 people but dies to Saint immediately after. His sacrifice allows Yeon to kill Hena though. Yeon is then killed by Saint, who is then killed by APA. Licorice then kills CoreJJ, who has been acting as a barrier between LYON and APA. APA manages to slither away as the rest of LYON retreats. In the end, it’s 4-2 for LYON.
• The game momentarily resets as everyone preps for objectives. APA gets caught out in top lane, however, and killed by Saint. LYON then takes outer top turret.
• TL move down to take the Voracious Atakahn, who spawned near bot lane. They take it but LYON, in response, take outer mid turret and inner top turret.
• Game enters another pushing and warding phase. TL starts up the fourth Drake (Chemtech) and takes it uncontested while LYON set up for Baron, which spawns just after TL claims the Drake. TL are now on Soul Point.
• Hena tries to go in on Yeon but APA stops him with Miasma and Petrifying Gaze. A team fight breaks out. Yeon ends up killing Hena (talk about karma). Saint finds an opening and kills Yeon. LYON chase after TL as they try to run and Licorice takes down CoreJJ. 2-1 for LYON.
• LYON starts up Baron but back off after APA TPs into mid lane. Both teams start to gather around Baron. Oddielan ults UmTi and then chases after him. Oddielan gets low but TL end up in narrow corridor and Licorice is able to catch several of them in his ult, leading to UmTi’s death. TL back off and regroup while LYON starts Baron.
• CoreJJ tries to Flash engage but his hook hit a wall. TL engage on to LYON as they fight Baron. Yeon blows up Hena almost immediately. Impact use his ult, knocking up Licorice, who is then killed by Yeon too. APA and Impact chase the remaining 3 members of LYON away, with APA killing Oddielan in the process. Lyonz and Saint retreat as TL turn around and take Baron. 3-0 for TL.
• Game resets as TL sets up for drake. UmTi almost gets caught out but manages to get away.
• TL start the Drake. Oddielan ults CoreJJ, who immediately gets scooped up by Yeon’ ult. The fight begins. Licorice drops his ult in a bad location, so it has little effect. Oddielan is the first to die (killed by Yeon). With Oddielan down, LYON back off and TL take the Drake (Chemtech) and receive the Dragon Soul Buff.
• TL push both bot and mid. They take the inner mid and bot turrets before backing off. Oddielan get caught out near Baron Pit, dies to APA.
• TL being sieging the inner top turret. As LYON tries to defend, TL set up a pincer move. CoreJJ marches forwards, hooks Hena, and ults him and Saint. APA drops Miasma. Yeon kills Hena, APA kills Saint, UmTi kills Licorice (who’s ult was better placed but too late to make a difference), and Yeon kills Lyonz. 4-1 for TL.
• TL take out mid base turret and inhibitor, then turn their attention to the Nexus turrets. Oddielan tries to defend but they push him back into his fountain. TL then destories both Nexus turrets and the Nexus itself.

Post Game Analysis: LYON Needs a Little More Work to be Truly Competitive

• TL end the game at 33:03 with a 9.9k gold lead. The final score was 17-13 for TL. LYON really makes TL work for the win. The game could have gone to neither team. LYON lost to misplaces, that is to say, they missed a few skill shots, and it bit them in the butt.
• CoreJJ’s Flash hook miss at Baron opened LYON up to being destroyed and Licorice dropping his Equalizer against a wall meant that it was almost completely irrelivent during the fight around Drake. Head these abilities been better used, LYON might have pulled off a win.
• After this match, TL are 1-0, while LYON is 0-1.
