- Image of MSI '25 courtesy of League of Legends

MSI Finals, Game 3. GEN.G vs T1. T1 is on Blue, GEN.G is on Red. GEN.G’s roster is Kiin (top), Canyon (jungle), Chovy (mid), Ruler (bot), and Duro (support). T1’s roster is Doran (top), Oner (jungle), Faker (mid), Gumayusi (bot), and Keria (support). Both teams represent the LCK (Korean). T1 won Game 1, GEN.G won Game 2. For more information on what Early, Mid, and Late Game mean, see Terms at the bottom of the article.

Champion Selection: Set Up vs Full Tilt

Ban phase removes Viktor, Varus, Neeko, Pantheon, K’Sante, and Skarner from the game.

T1 has 1st pick this time and they go for Azir. GEN.G opts to go for Rumble and Xin Zhao. T1 counters with Nocturne and Ornn. GEN.G closes out the 1st set of picks by taking Annie.

2nd Ban phase sees the Bot Lane (specifically Support) targeted with Bard, Tahm Kench, Rakan, and Kai’Sa exiled from the Rift.

GEN.G starts things back up by grabbing Rell. T1 rounds out their team with Xayah and Renata. GEN.G finishes the draft phase by picking Sivir. T1 has a lot of safety and engaging potential. GEN.G is more hard-engaged with a desire to run straight towards the enemy team.

Team comps are: T1 – Ornn (top), Nocturne (jungle), Azir (mid), Xayah (bot), Renata (support) vs GEN.G – Rumble (top), Xin Zhao (jungle), Annie (mid), Siver (bot), Rell (support).

Early Game Highlights: A Good Punish by T1

Another interview, but this one is fast and ends before the minions reach each other, so that’s fine. Early Game starts out pretty uneventfully.

Ruler and Duro are very aggressive in the Bot Lane. This leads to Duro getting caught by a Handshake, which leads to getting Rooted by Bladecaller, and then death as he gives over 1st Blood to Gumayusi.

T1 secures the 1st Drake (Chemtech) uncontested.

T1 starts up the Voidgrubs. GEN.G arrives to contest. Doran uses his Ultimate, but it only hits Canyon. Oner is able to secure the 1st Grub, but GEN.G is able to push T1 away from the objective. GEN.G claims the remaining 2.

Early Game ends with T1 ahead in gold by just 600. They are also ahead in farm.

Mid Game Highlights: Why You Hitting Yourself

T1 takes the 2nd Drake (Cloud) very quickly. Even though Kiin TPs into Bot Lane to potentially contest, T1 secures the objective before GEN.G can gather up. As T1 retreats, GEN.G engages. Kiin’s Equalizer kills Oner, who takes Duro down with him. The fight goes on for a little while longer with good. Both ADCs get low. No one else dies, though. Fight goes 1-1, but T1 claims the Drake.

GEN.G starts up the Rift Herald. T1 hovers around, looking for an angle. As the Herald gets low, Oner uses Paranoia, gets in, and Steal is. A fight then breaks out. Though Duro hits good Magnet Storm, Keria lands a better Hostile Takeover.

Oner takes out Ruler, Faker removes Canyon, Doran drops Kiin, Keria chases down and takes out both Duro and Chovy. Fight goes 5-0 for T1 (Ruler respawned before Chovy died, so no ACE), who also get the Rift Herald, which they immediately drop in Mid to take the Outer Turret.

T1 secures the 3rd Drake (Mountain) uncontested. They are now on Soul Point.

The mid-game ends with T1 still ahead in gold (now by 2.9k) and still ahead in farm.

Late Game Highlights: Friends Become Foes in the Darkness

T1 drag GEN.G down to the Atakhan. GEN.G starts up the objective as T1 hovers around, waiting for an opening. As the Atakhan gets low, T1 locks up Canyon and turns out the lights. Oner Steals away the Atakhan and kills Canyon. GEN.G flees, but Kiin gets caught by the Ornn Ult and dies to Oner as well.

T1 starts up the 4th Drake. Duro tries to contest with the Magnet Storm, but Oner’s Paranoia and Keria’s Hostile Takeover put a hard stop to any attempts by GEN.G to contest. Gumayusi kills Duro and Kiin, Oner takes out Chovy, and Faker drops Canyon. Ruler gets chased away. Fight goes 4-0 for T1, who also claim the Drake afterwards. They now have Mountain Soul.

Doran and Keria take the Inner Mid Turret, but to do so, they stay too long. Keria gets chased down and killed by Ruler. Honestly, probably worth it.

As T1 sets up for Baron, Chovy tries to get behind them for a flank by TPing into their Blue Jungle. T1 turns out the lights to get a better position and find Chovy. As GEN.G tries to engage, Hostile Takeover and Call of the Forge God wrecks their setup. Gumayusi gets a Quadra Kill on to Chovy, Ruler, Canyon, and Duro. Kiin was far enough away that he’s able to flee to safety. Fight goes 4-0 for T1, who take Baron afterwards.

Faker gets caught out in Bot Lane, but he’s Faker, so he gets away. Oner uses Paranoia to dive onto Kiin. Faker returns and gets the kill on to him. Ruler manages to get away from Oner’s Fear, but Faker shuffles forward and kills him. Fight goes 2-0 for T1.

With GEN.G in full retreat, T1 takes the Base Bot Turret and the Bot Inhibitor. They then take both Nexus Turrets, kill Duro (Faker, again, gets credit), and then destroy the Nexus.

Post Game Analysis: Jungle-Support Combo Wins Game 3 of the MSI Finals

T1 ends the game at 27:30 with a 14.2k gold lead. The final score was 20-2.

The casters talk about how you can’t win a game in the draft. I think this game might fly in opposition to that maxim. The combination of Paranoia and Hostile Takeover pretty much secured T1 their win.

One could argue that GEN.G should have been more spread out, but let’s be fair, when Nocturne uses his Ultimate, the natural reaction is to group up. This allowed Keria ample targets for his Ultimate. T1 just cleaned up this game. Even outside the Jungle-Support combo, T1 was able to punish GEN.G’s Early Game aggression, which helped them gain significant tempo.
