Some indie game premises are so bizarre that you wonder how the human mind could come up with them. Such is the case with Ultimate Sheep Raccoon. With a title that sounds like it came from a random word generator, you build stunt racing courses for animals to bike through. Yes, there’s really a game like that, and there’s a trailer to prove it.
The trailer, which was featured in the Nintendo Indie World Showcase, shows various animals such as sheep, raccoons, chickens, alligators, and monkeys all biking around extreme stunt racing courses that the player designs. These aren’t anthropomorphic animals, either; they look like smiling versions of the real things, which adds to the weirdness. How do hooves hold onto handlebars? The animals go flipping through the courses, performing stunts in the air and laughing while they do so.
Well, the game itself actually looks pretty fun. First off, you can design your own courses, which should lead to some wacky and insanely difficult courses from players’ creative minds. There are also power-ups that can help the animals get an edge in the races. The trailer also advertises eight-player cross-platform multiplayer, meaning that Switch and Switch 2 players can engage in races together. The Switch 2’s GameChat feature should stimulate some hilarious exclamations about the game’s weirdness.
Ultimate Sheep Raccoon looks like a solid game that uses its wacky premise for a good time. If you enjoy a good stunt racing game, but you’re tired of always playing as humans, Ultimate Sheep Raccoon might be exactly your thing. Plus, it looks like it will be a great game to get drunk with and have a wild time. The game will be available on the Switch and Switch 2 in the winter of 2025.
