Riot Games ensures that Valorant does not feel monotonous to users and brings out regular updates. These patch updates feature new maps, a new map rotation, new items, and more.
The latest patch, brings a change to the competitive map pool, with a few maps coming into the rotation and some making way.
The following seven maps constitute the active competitive rotation for Patch 12.05.
Haven features a unique three-site layout and remains one of the most popular picks in the queue. Haven is one of the most popular and played maps in competitive queues, and there is little wonder why.
Its layout makes almost every agent viable in competitive queues. The key part of the design is the almost isolated Garage area, which serves as a fourth “dummy” site for players.
Perhaps the most played map at one point, Ascent has maintained its position in the competitive queue. However, there are certain reports that Riot Games has decreased the map’s probability for ranked matches.
Ascent features a more pure two-site layout, with both sites not directly connected by anything other than the Defenders’ spawn.
Another key part of the design on Ascent is the elevation possible, which reflects in the high pick rates of agents like Omen and Jett.
The first map based on Omega Earth, it is set in an underwater biome containing the remnants of the city Lisbon on Omega Earth.
Pearl features a usual lopsided two-site design like Ascent. The unique feature is the design of the mid area, which is connected through a common space that has a small duct to the Defenders’ spawn.
While Pearl usually is not a popular pick among competitive players, it rewards both creativity and brute aim, with the B area being much more open and the A site enshrouded with structures.
Split remains a staple of the competitive rotation. The layout is much smaller, but the distance to be covered from one site to the other by using the spawn is one of the highest.
This makes for intriguing games, increasing the importance of the mid area, which serves as a shorter rotation route. Because of the enclosed layout, the map is seen as favorable for newer Sentinel agents like Deadlock, whereas Viper remains a strong pick.
Breeze is based on a secluded island in the Bermuda Triangle, and you can actually get lost in the maze-like pathways from the Attacker spawn and the hallway.
The unique part is the location itself. Another aspect is the hallway from the Attacker spawn that leads directly to the Defenders’ spawn. Intended to be a Radianite mining facility, you can see the structures built to mine and store the resource on both sites.
Returning to the pool for the first time since 10.08, the zipline has been made famous thanks to the massacre of the BOOM Esports players by OpTic Gaming player Austin “crashies” Roberts.
Set in a Kingdom facility, Fracture’s uniqueness comes from having an underground pathway as well as the zipline connecting the two ends after the Everett-Linde Incident caused by the Chambers of the two worlds.
The Riot development team has reworked Lotus before bringing it back, specifically addressing the spam-prone A site. The structural changes on the A site are visible and do change the way the site will be played in the competitive queue.
The A lobby area has also been reinforced, with the addition of a new spot for attackers to jump into while facing a utility barrage. The planting area on A has also been reduced to allow plants only on the right side of the A site box.
Abyss and Corrode have made way for Fracture and Lotus in this patch. While Corrode’s pick rate has been okay-ish, Abyss might need a rework despite already being subject to changes before.
For now, players can enjoy these seven maps in the competitive queue, with the reworked Lotus serving a new experience.
