A Golden Effort In Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball

In the first doubleheader of Week Two of the Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball season, the leaderboard saw a major shift. Indiana Fever guards Odyssey Sims and Shey Peddy made massive leaps with great performances. Now, the question is which other players else made the leap on Friday evening in Nashville? Here is a recap of Games Nine and Ten inn Week Two.

Game Nine: Eclispe Vs. Glow

Here, Alysha Clark and the Eclipse faced Rebekah Gardner and the Glow in a matchup of 1-0 squads. The Glow found themselves down after the first quarter by a 26 – 22 score to the Eclipse. Guard Ariel Atkins of the Chicago Sky led the Eclispe with eight points in the quarter. Also, Gardner scored six points for the Glow in the quarter.

In the second quarter, neither team reached 20 points as they put up a combined 28 points. Clark accounted for six of the Eclipse’s 11 points as Sims scored of the Glow’s 17 points. At halftime, the Glow had a 39 – 37 lead against the Eclipse.

Quarter number three saw the offense pick up a bit as the Glow outscored the Eclipse 31 – 22. Sims scored nine points in the quarter as Forward Alissa Pili had six points for the Eclipse. The Glow took a 70 – 59 lead into the fourth quarter over the Eclipse.

Despite five three-pointers by the Eclipse in the fourth, they fell to the Glow 91 – 80. Peddy hit three of them while Las Vegas Aces guard Aaliyah Nye and Clark drained one each.

For MVP 2 honors, Sims took it home as she scored 25 points as Gardner won MVP 3 honors with 14 points. Los Angeles Sparks Guard Sarah Ashlee Barker put up 12 points on four-of-six shooting from the field.

What’s more, Natasha Mack of the Phoenix Mercury notched another double-double. The center/forward scored 11 points while grabbing 13 rebounds in the win. Lastly, Sparks guard Emma Cannon had 10 points and five board as Aces guard Kierstan Bell had 10 points with six rebounds.

Peddy garnered MVP 1 honors with 19 points and seven assists for the Eclipse. Clark added 17 points in 32 minutes of action.

Pili contributed 16 points with six boards, and Atkins 10 points in the loss.

Game Ten: Rhythm Vs. Gold Rush

In this game, Aneesah Morrow and the Rhythm played Kaitlyn Chen and the Gold Rush in search win No. 1 on the week. The first quarter saw a combined eight three-pointers made as the Gold Rush took an early 26 – 20 lead.

Guard Bree Hall of the Fever and Atlanta Dream guard Te-Hina Paopao each hit two shots from beyond the arc for the Gold Rush. Guard Kayana Traylor led the Rhythm with seven points in the quarter.

Looking at the second quarter, the offense carried from the opening quarter. The Rhythm scored 23 points to the Gold Rush’s 21. For the Gold Rush, Chen and Forward Teana Muldrow each put up eight points in the quarter.

Fever guard Aerial Powers led the scoring for the Rhythm with eight points as forward NaLyssa Smith of the Aces had six points. At the half, the Gold Rush held a 47 – 43 lead over the Rhythm.

The third quarter saw the Gold Rush hold the Rhythm’s offense to just 16 points while they had 25. First, Sky guard Kia Nurse scored nine points in the quarter on the strength of three three-pointers of the Gold Rush. Additionally, guard Kiara Leslie had nine points for the squad. Ahead of the fourth quarter, the Rhythm were down 72 – 59 to the Gold Rush.

Without question, the offense had a rush and tempo as the squads combined for 50 points in the fourth quarter. Of the Rhythm’s 27 points in the quarter, 17 came from the free throw line. However, Nurse (9), Muldrow (7), and Chen (7) collaborated for 23 of the 25 points in the fourth. Ultimately, the Gold Rush won by a 97 – 86 score.

Rhythm Vs. Gold Rush Stats Recap

Chen won MVP 1 Honors as the Golden State Valkyries guard scored 19 points with five rebounds, all on the offensive end. Muldrow scored 18 points to take home MVP 2 Honors. Nurse and her team-leading 21 points, including five three’s, gave her MVP 3 Honors. Hall scored 12 points in 21 minutes of play for the Gold Rush.

Furthermore, Aces center Kiah Stokes grabbed 13 boards in the victory as she has 9+ rebounds in all five of her games. It’s important to note that the Gold Rush had nine blocks, the most in an Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball game this season.

Powers and Smith led the Rhythm in scoring with 15 points as Traylor put up 14. In addition, guards Zia Cooke and Deja Kelly had 13 points and 10 points, respectively. Morrow snatched down 15 rebounds in the game, her fourth game with at 10 boards.
