Sophie Cunningham was in full Indiana Fever uniform on Friday. It was not for the big game against the Chicago Sky, though, as the 29-year-old recently underwent season-ending surgery to address an MCL tear in her right knee.
Cunningham, however, was in full gear for the Fever’s team photos , along with the four other players who have been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson suffered season-ending injuries less than two weeks before Cunningham tore her MCL. On Thursday, it was announced that both Caitlin Clark and Chloe Bibby are also done for the year.
To say that Indiana has been decimated with injuries this season would be a huge understatement.
This appears to be what was on Cunningham’s mind as she reacted to a video of all five injured Fever players.
“a sick joke,” posted Cunningham.

The 6-foot-1 guard shared the now-viral video of herself, Clark, McDonald, Colson and Bibby smiling for the camera. The irony of the clip is that all five players had big smiles on their faces, along with the thumbs-up signs, despite their respective injuries.
It’s great to see all five ladies in good spirits. After all, they will need to support the rest of the squad from the sidelines as the Fever fights to secure that elusive playoff berth.
Indiana is currently seventh in the league with a 22-20 record. While they have now found themselves in a great position to clinch one of the last two remaining playoff spots in the WNBA, they’re not out of the woods just yet.
Indiana has two games left in the regular season, starting with Sunday’s road matchup against the Washington Mystics.
